Pamela Bach, who originated the role of Mari Jo Mason on Young and Restless in 1994 before Diana Barton assumed the part, has passed away at the age of 62. TMZ reports that she died by suicide.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahama, Bach began modeling as a teenager, following in her mother’s professional footsteps. After studying engineering and theater arts at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, she moved to Los Angeles. While working on Knight Rider in 1985, she met series star David Hasselhoff, known to soap fans for his run on Young and Restless as Snapper Foster. The pair married in 1989 and welcomed two daughters, Taylor and Hayley, before divorcing in 2006 due to irreconcilable differences. When the divorce was finalized, Bach told the Associated Press, “I’ve always loved him and always will, and have love and compassion for him,” adding. “It’s a very, very sad day, but a day to move on.”

In 2024, Bach became a first-time grandmother when daughter Taylor welcomed her first child, a daughter named London. On Instagram, Bach noted how special it was to celebrate her first holiday season with her grandchild, writing, “Even though My Precious Grandaughter – 🩷London🩷 may not remember it yet, our first Christmas with her was absolutely magical. ✨The day was filled with love, joy, and precious moments with family. We cherish these wonderful memories we made.”

Bach made her feature film debut in 1983 in Rumble Fish, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Over the course of her acting career, Bach appeared in 14 episodes of Baywatch, which also starred Hasselhoff, recurring as Kaye Morgan, and guest-starred on shows including Cheers and The Fall Guy. She also had a role in the feature film Castle Rock. In addition to her acting roles, she appeared as a contestant on the UK version of the reality competition show Celebrity Big Brother.

According to TMZ, authorities went to Bach’s home to check on her after family members voiced concern over not having heard from her. Bach was found dead in her home of a self-inflicted gun wound to the head and did not leave behind a note.

Soap Opera Digest sends its deepest condolences to Bach’s family and friends at this difficult time.
