Young and Restless’ Holden ‘Highly Concerned’ About Secret Past With Audra, Says Nathan Owens (Excl)
Holden is trying to make a fresh start on Young and Restless, especially now that his budding romance with Claire is taking off. However, the guy still has a major skeleton in his closet in the form of whatever secret he and Audra are keeping about their past together. Portrayer Nathan Owens tells Soap Opera Digest that his alter ego is “highly, highly concerned” about the truth coming out, and given that secrets never stay that way for long in soaps, he should probably brace himself for the worst!
Reality Check
If the secret could be equally damaging to both Holden and Audra’s lives, then the potential of mutually assured destruction should help keep them from betraying each other. But that’s not to say that Holden wouldn’t use it as leverage to try to ensure that Audra toes the line.
“Oh yeah, he would 100 percent do that,” Owens declares. “And also, he understands what works against certain personalities and people.” And in the case of Audra, the actor believes, the threat of exposing what happened in their past could be a potent way of making sure he maintains the upper hand. “The stakes need to be higher for her to actually fall in line, or else she’ll just trample over because she has no boundaries,” he says.
Muses Owens, “That’s the whole thing about Audra. That’s kind of who she is. So he knows that he has to come at her with something very serious for her to just settle down and check her.”
Audra has made it crystal clear on multiple occasions that she’s not one to just simply do as she’s told, so keeping her in line could prove more than a little difficult. But Owens believes Holden is up for the challenge and might very well be able to use their shared past to his own advantage.
“He has so much history with her, it’s possible that he knows certain ways to trigger her, certain buttons to push and pull, to get her to do certain things as well, that others don’t,” the Y&R star teases. “[Things] they’re not privy to in Genoa City… yet.”
Partners In Crime
While Holden’s relationship with Audra is often combative, the one between Owens and co-star Zuleyka Silver is definitely collaborative. “I mean, I feel like every time we have a scene, it’s always contentious, like we’re at each other’s neck,” he chuckles. “But in between scenes, we’re giggling, laughing and having a good time. We get along really well, and we both want to do the best work that we possibly can.
“So we’re always quick to want to help each other out with running [lines] and stuff like that, too,” Owens continues. “She’s the ultimate professional, and then, at the same time, likes to have a little fun in between, if possible. She’s always got your back as a scene partner, so that’s cool.”
