Will General Hospital Reunite Willow and Chase? Katelyn MacMullen Talks ‘Chillow’ (Exclusive)

Comments

On General Hospital, Willow Tait recently became Mrs. Drew Cain — which seemed to be something she viewed more as a necessary evil than as an act of true devotion to the underhanded congressman. After all, she stands accused of shooting her now-husband — and if she somehow manages to beat those allegations, she still faces an uphill battle regaining access to her children, Wiley and Amelia, and could use Drew’s help on that front, as well. But it’s her close relationship with her first love interest on the show, Detective Harrison Chase, that has gotten fans talking. Chase has been going above and beyond to try to exonerate Willow — and even though he is happily married (to Brook Lynn), in the world of soaps, his devotion to his ex’s cause could plausibly be foreshadowing a “Chillow” reunion. Soap Opera Digest asked Willow’s portrayer, Katelyn MacMullen, for her take on the situation.

‘Chillow’ Talk

Viewers aren’t the only ones wondering if GH is going to “go there” again with Willow and Chase — MacMullen says that she has been asking the exact same question! “Anytime Josh [Swickard, Chase] and I see a new script pop up, we’re like, ‘“Chillow” reunion?’” she admits with a laugh.

As a seven-year vet of Port Charles, MacMullen knows the question is valid. “I feel like anytime you see two characters written a lot together, that question mark will pop up,” she notes. “You’re like, ‘Is this going somewhere?’ You just can never quite know! Especially since they do have a history, I think Josh and I were both like, ‘Oh, this is interesting.’ like, ‘I wonder what this could lead to. Certainly, when I started seeing Chase and Willow on a [script] page together, I was like, ‘What can this lead to?'”

Chase and Willow first got together in 2018, and became lovers the following year, then had a convoluted, only-in-soaps breakup when Chase and Sasha (who was then dating Michael) pretended to be having an affair so that Michael and Willow would tie the knot. (Chase and Sasha knew that would  increase Michael and Willow’s chances of securing custody of Wiley as Michael went to court with the boy’s biological mother, Nelle.) So, in 2020, Willow and Michael said, “I do.” Eventually, Willow found out that Chase had been faithful to her, and after having her marriage to Michael annulled, she and Chase got back together in 2021. Just one problem: By then, she had genuinely fallen for Michael. But when Chase became gravely ill, Willow married him on what seemed to be his deathbed. Still, she couldn’t resist her pull to Michael and began an affair with him. Chase pulled through, found out that Willow was sleeping with another man, and they ended up in divorcing. In 2024, the same year Willow’s latest marriage to Michael crashed and burned, he walked down the aisle with Brook Lynn.

While MacMullen doesn’t know what the future holds for Willow and Chase, she enthuses, “I love working with Josh! He’s so awesome, and we’ve just always had a blast working together. It’s been fun to get to do it again, and I think it’s a cool, full-circle moment that he’s the one person in her life who sees the best in her, even if it feels to her like the entire world is against her. I think that has been kind of sweet.”
