Who Died on Beyond the Gates? How One Character Met a Tragic End
One of the original characters introduced in Beyond the Gates’s premiere back in February 2025 met a tragic fate in the May 20, 2026, episode. While many residents of Fairmont Crest were enjoying the cotillion, some others were trying to break up the criminal organization stealing plasma from the hospital — and one of them didn’t survive. Here’s how it all went down.
A Hero’s Death
Jacob (Jibre Hordges), who had been working undercover to crack The Impaler case, was at the warehouse meeting place with Grayson (Jordi Vilasuso), who had previously been working for the plasma ring but flipped to working with the good guys. Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) arrived, having been sent by Joey (Jon Lindstrom), as did Derek (Ben Gavin), who had followed Grayson. When Lia (Cecelia Specht) appeared, wanting to be part of the meeting with the big bosses, she immediately recognized Jacob. Things went from bad to worse as the cops arrived, shots were fired on both sides, and chaos erupted.
When the dust cleared, Jacob was unscathed — because Derek heroically took the bullet for him. Grayson tackled the shooter and worked to keep Derek alive until the paramedics arrived.
At the hospital, Ashley (Jen Jacob) was getting ready to leave after her shift when a shooting victim was brought in on a stretcher. She was horrified to see that it was her ex-boyfriend, Derek. They only had time to exchange a few words, with Derek telling Ashley that he loved her, before he was rushed off to surgery.
As news of the shooting spread, Jacob’s wife, Naomi (Arielle Prepetit), raced from the cotillion to the hospital and was relieved to see that he was unhurt. When he revealed that Derek had taken a bullet, Naomi rushed to Ashley’s side to support her best friend while they awaited news about Derek’s condition. Grayson felt guilty because it was his fault Derek had followed him to the warehouse, but Jacob argued that they both likely could have wound up dead without Derek’s intervention.
After donating blood in case Derek needed it, Grayson joined everyone else in the waiting room. Ashley noticed the surgeon walking over to the nurses station and immediately knew that something was wrong. After speaking with the doctor, Shanice (Ernestine Johnson Morrison) fought back tears and turned to face Ashley. She walked over to where Ashley stood with Naomi and Jacob and shook her head wordlessly. Ashley broke down in tears, crumpling to the floor in grief.
