Welcome To Oakdale, Illinois! Page 5
PUBLIC WORKS
Oakdale Memorial Hospital: “That’s a one-bed hospital,” jokes Hastings. “It seems that whenever someone gets ill, everybody who has a contract shows up and stuffs themselves in the room, especially after Dr. Bob or Dr. John says, ‘No visitors.’ We also used to say that if you wanted to go from anyplace in Oakdale to any other place, you had to go through the solarium at the hospital.” Adds Park: “Like any good soap opera, everything is centered around the ER, where people can come and go as they please, sneak medication in and out and switch blood tests. Everything bad can happen here. I’d ask them to transfer me to Bay City, although that’s where Grayson McCouch [Dusty; ex-Morgan, ANOTHER WORLD] was last seen, so I’m not too sure about that.”
Oakdale Police Department: An impressive operations center for Oakdale’s finest. Fun fact: The mug shots on the wall of the interrogation room are of crew members. “A great place to work, but very dangerous — very sharp corners,” warns Park. “Let me just put it this way: If you’re calling 911 in Oakdale looking for an ambulance or police car, it’s not a good idea. Just start the CPR by yourself. If you have a needle handy, do some suture practice. What do Oakdale P.D. and Mayberry Police have in common?”
CRIME SCENE
The Old Mill: This has become such a prime spot for secret rendezvous and body dumps, the Oakdale P.D. should open a branch here. “For a place that gets so much use, it sure has a lot of cobwebs in it,” muses Park.
