The Best
General Hospital: Sasha Turns To Nina
Long-time fans were surprised — many of them, not in a good way — by the twist that Holly is Sasha’s mother, and Sasha was surprised to learn Robert Scorpio is her father. What wasn’t surprising was that Sasha turned to Nina after she got the DNA results — they’ve come a long way since Valentin paid Sasha to claim she was Nina’s daughter in 2018.
Nina instinctively knew something was wrong when a stricken Sasha walked into her office. “I’ve been lying to you for a long time,” began Sasha, admitting that her mother was alive and her name was Holly Sutton. Sasha figured Nina would hate her, but Nina assured her that if she could get past Sasha conning her she could get past this. But why come clean now? Oh… the Scorpio tie means Sasha’s boyfriend Cody is now her first cousin. Sasha saw it as karmic payback for her misdeeds, but Nina argued that their hard-won friendship was actually karma rewarding them for working hard to become better people.
Sasha’s been addicted to drugs, swindled out of her money, lost a child, buried a husband, and now must face losing Cody. Luckily, she “conned” her way into a loving mother — er, friend — to help her through it. So much of this story is making GH play fast and loose with history, but at least where Sasha and Nina are concerned, they stayed true to it.
Days of our Lives: Chanel Calls Johnny Out
Johnny is a DiMera, which means he acts first and thinks later. So when he spied Alex getting busy with someone under the sheets at Body and Soul, he assumed it was his wife. (A real soap opera director would know better!) Johnny misread things like Chanel hurting her back and whispering with Alex as signs she was cheating, rather than the innocent truth that Chanel tweaked her back tying her shoe and Alex was helping her plan a surprise party — for Johnny.
He finally confronted his wife, screaming at her not to bother denying the tryst because he “saw” her and calling her a “cheating slut.” Chanel stood there dumbfounded as Johnny stormed onto the set where the cast yelled, “Surprise!” and the truth came out that it was Stephanie who got busy with Alex. Johnny claimed he was suspicious because Chanel acted like nothing happened, which was the dumbest argument of all because nothing did. Chanel angrily smashed cake in Johnny’s face, advising, “Best to not speak with your mouth full.”
Better advice would have been best to not get revenge with another woman (Joy) without all the facts. Too late!
Bold and Beautiful: Ivy returns — with Electra!
Co-CEO Steffy has been getting her way for far too long at Forrester Creations, threatening to cancel Hope For The Future, dissing Brooke’s Bedroom Line and pooh-poohing COO Carter’s ideas for expansion. Enter her cousin Ivy from Australia for a reality check. “I’m a Forrester, too,” she reminded Steffy, suggesting the company support her jewelry line. Steffy pushed back, even after Ivy introduced her niece Electra to gush about her excitement at working with her famously “strong” cousin Steffy Forrester. The kissing up didn’t work, so Ivy turned to her Uncle Eric. He welcomed Ivy and Electra with his usual open arms, inviting them to move into the mansion and backing their idea to reboot the jewelry line, which sparked immediate conflict with Steffy.
Speaking of kissing, Ivy smooched Liam the last time she was in town and Electra had a meet-cute on day one in the hallway with Will who was immediately smitten. (We know this because Will had a flashback of meeting her right after he met her.) Two more shiny Forrester/Spencer pairings to shake things up? Sounds like a gem.
Young and Restless: Sharon Gaslights Daniel
It’s unclear how much of Heather’s murder actually happened because so much of the story involves Sharon talking to the bloody ghost of Cameron Kirsten. Daniel’s arrest for Heather’s death, however, was very real. So were Sharon’s attempts to 1) gaslight Daniel re: a fake conversation with Heather and 2) give him advice.
“Heather blurted out that the two of you had a terrible fight and she was shaken by it,” Sharon lied to a stunned Daniel, adding that she didn’t want to add to his pain so she chose to say nothing. He retorted that something was “very off” with Sharon’s story but she looked him straight in the eye and repeated that Heather had been terrified of him. Sharon insisted she was only trying to help Daniel and the police find answers, pointedly saying she knows he would never hurt anyone intentionally. Get some rest, she advised. Find some peace.
The wild soapiness of Sharon counseling the bereaved partner of the woman she may have killed — and certainly believes she killed — took the psychological stakes of the story even deeper, as did Cameron’s ghost egging her on to hurt Daniel. Time will tell what’s real…
The Worst
GH: Heather Gets Released
Yes, Alley Mills is a dynamic recast who won a Daytime Emmy for playing nutbag Heather Webber and yes, GH made Heather more sympathetic by having Laura plead her case and yes, GH has redeemed other villains to varying degrees (Julian Jerome, Valentin Cassadine, Liesl Obrecht). But the reason for Heather’s release made no sense.
“The judge agreed that Heather was suffering from cobalt poisoning when she committed those murders and wasn’t in her right mind,” her lawyer Ric told an appalled Elizabeth after learning he’d won his case. By “those murders” he meant Heather aka “The Hook” killing Britt, Rory, Oz and Brando. Ric neglected to list the PC faves she attacked and/or stalked: Ava, Josslyn, Diane, Nikolas, Austin, Spencer and Trina. Assuming a murderer could actually go free because she received a bum hip that poisoned her, what about all the crimes Heather committed before that surgery? She murdered a cop named Ross (so that’s two officers of the law that she offed, for those keeping score) and framed Skye Quartermaine for it, poisoned Edward, shot Luke, stabbed her son Steven and drugged/kidnapped numerous people on the regular between 1976 and 2014.
Memo to the judge: Unless Heather had that hip replacement in high school, we object.
DAYS: Cat’s Out Of The Bag
Faux Abigail broke Chad’s heart with a fake DNA test claiming she was his dead wife, so already this newbie had strikes against her. But the more we learned about her the worse it got. “The only reason I pretended to be someone you loved and lost was to hopefully stop Mark and me from losing someone we love,” said the impostor in a sentence as convoluted as this story. She said her real name was Cat and claimed Clyde Weston threatened her mother’s life if she didn’t follow his orders to pose as Abigail and marry Chad for his money. Who’s her mother? Why, it’s none other than Catharina, the presumed-dead daughter of the villainous Konstantin, who tried to swindle Maggie earlier this year before being killed by Xander.
Setting aside the previous head-scratcher of a story that John Black killed Catharina years ago when he was The Pawn and Konstantin came to town to avenge her death, the character of Konstantin was a flop. So why would we care about his family (which apparently includes Cat’s fellow newbies Mark, Felicity and Aaron)?
Chad promised to make Cat pay. Hopefully that will involve characters we know in a story more true to DAYS’s rich history.
