Secrets And Lies: Holly (Emma Samms) finds herself in the hot seat on GH.

General Hospital fans are still abuzz over the one-two punch of reveals surrounding Holly Sutton: a) that she’s Sasha’s mother and b) that Robert is Sasha’s father, or so she claims, and that she concealed his daughter from him for decades.

Samms told Soap Opera Digest how shocked she was by the twist and says that co-star Tristan Rogers (Robert) shared the sentiment.

“We were both surprised — and love it, you know?” she muses. “I mean, that’s what you want when you’re on a show like this, is to have a story that’s got everyone talking, whether it’s good talk or not. That’s what you want: to be given something, an issue, that’s so problematic but also so pregnant with such potential.”

The actress expected the bombshell to stir up controversy among the fandom. “So many people really wanted Robert and Holly to have had a child,” she notes. “And so there are some people that are going to be pleased; there are some that are going to be sad that they have a child but it’s not Ethan. There are some people who don’t care [laughs]. I mean, everybody’s got an opinion, and that’s what we do it for. We do it for people to take a side, to have an opinion, to feel invested. So I welcome all of that, and I think Tristan and I were really, really pleased that we have a story that’s got so much to it.”

In Other News

The drama surrounding the Sasha reveal isn’t the only iron Holly has in the storyline fire, as there’s also the matter of the diamond theft she perpetrated on Jenz Sidwell before fleeing his compound that she has to contend with. “That keeps going,” Samms nods. “The consequences of her stealing from Sidwell carries on, and it’s a lovely sort of second thread to the whole family drama. So, it’s a combination of international intrigue and family drama.”

The matter of the diamond brings Sonny and Holly into one another’s orbits. Samms enthuses that she was thrilled to get to work opposite his portrayer, Maurice Benard, “which I asked for, and he’d asked for,” she shares. “That was really good fun. It was a high-pressure day, though,” she says of their scenes. “It was a monster day of dialogue for me, and that was one of those days where I went away feeling, ‘Oh, I could have done that better.’ But hopefully, he was pleased with it and Frank was pleased with it, and hopefully, the audience will find it interesting. It’s two people having a proper conversation and I think their encounter was interesting and well-written. I think it could lead to me more, and that’s one of the loveliest things for me about this particular visit, which is that I worked with so many different people. Even though she comes and goes, Holly’s got lots of connections in Port Charles that are interesting.”

One that’s particularly dear to Samms’s heart is Holly’s friendship with Felicia, played by Kristina Wagner. “Kristina is just so adorable and so gorgeous — she just gets more and more beautiful — and I love the way that Felicia and Holly are together,” Samms raves. “I think the most normal side you see of Holly is when she’s just gossiping with Felicia and just allows herself to have a girly time of things. Felicia has got lovely qualities and is feisty as well, but when they get together, I think it’s more of a relaxed side that you see [in them], and I like that. I really enjoy our scenes.”
