The Best And Worst On B&B, DAYS, GH And Y&R The Week Of Jan. 27-31

(From l.) B&B’s Finn (Tanner Novlan), DAYS’s Rachel (Finley Rose Slater), GH’s Carly (Laura Wright) and Brennan (Charles Mesure) and Y&R’s Adam (Mark Grossman) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) stirred things up on soaps last week.
The Best
General Hospital: Carly and Brennan Heat Up
It was a slow burn, but Carly finally sparked to the dashing WSB boss after he helped her get medical treatment for her son, Michael. Jack Brennan showed up at her hotel in Germany to, ahem, check on her, and they convened at the spa where Carly foiled an assassination attempt on his life (et tu, Valentin?). Brennan thanked Carly by showing up at her door and planting a big kiss on her
“Hold on,” she responded. “I need a minute.” Brennan apologized if he misread the situation and insisted he wasn’t trying to sleep with her. The Aussie added that he understood if she saw warning signs with him but he just wanted to sit by the fire with her in the snow and drink champagne. (He even had a blanket for her… aw!) Carly being Carly, she pressed him about his friendship with the guy who just tried to kill him and Brennan rolled out his story about training in the WSB with Valentin and Anna. The two then got “cozy” and admitted they had been fighting their feelings for each other. And now?
“I’m all out of fight,” said Brennan, kissing her again.
The chemistry between Laura Wright (Carly) and Charles Mesure (Brennan) was unmistakable. Mesure will be missed in the role, but we hope to fall in love with Chris McKenna’s take on Brennan, as well.
Young and Restless: Chelsea Moves In
Talk about playing the long game! The former con artist who stole money from Fenmore’s (and poisoned Sharon’s husband Rey Rosales) turned over a new leaf a few years back and became a fashion designer. In between marriages to Adam Newman, Chelsea had relationships with Nick Newman and Nick’s never-mentioned half brother Dylan McAvoy, all of whom were much richer than she was. Chelsea gave birth to Adam’s son Connor in 2013, tying her to Adam forever — and now she has moved to the vast Newman ranch.
“It’s for Connor’s sake,” Chelsea insisted to Nick when he came upon the exes unpacking at their new abode. Nick told her she didn’t have to explain herself to him but Chelsea said she wanted to avoid any assumptions that she was reuniting with Adam. “Super-quick on the clarification,” quipped Nick. Accurate! The exes bantered about his friendly concern re: her living with his brother and her exasperation with the “look” Nick kept shooting her, but the takeaway was that things between Chelsea and Nick don’t seem to be over despite her now rooming with his brother.
“My brother wants what he wants,” shrugged Nick. What does Chelsea want?
Bold and Beautiful: Finn Is Luna’s Father?!
We’re nine months into the saga of who fathered Luna and the suspect has moved from Bill Spencer to Tom Starr to Jack Finnegan to Jack’s son Dr. Finn, who summoned his Aunt Poppy to his office for a sudden walk down memory lane. They reminisced about when Poppy came to stay with her sister Li (Finn’s adoptive mom) and the duo talked all night like it was “magic,” finally giving into temptation.
“You were my first,” revealed Finn, careful to spell out that he and Poppy are not blood relatives and that he was of age when they hit the sheets. The two gushed about how the encounter changed their lives and Finn reminded Poppy that she swore the baby wasn’t his when she became pregnant. Was that true? Yes, insisted Poppy. But Finn, well aware of the who’s the daddy? sweepstakes going on, immediately used his hospital access to ask for a sample of Luna’s blood for a DNA test.
Luna being Finn’s daughter is, for many fans, tasteless and unseemly, but in terms of drama, it’s quite the juicy turn of events. Li will be beside herself that her sister got pregnant by her son and Steffy will have to deal with her adoring husband having a grown daughter… who tried to kill her last year.
Days of Our Lives: Rachel Helps Kidnap Ava
They start those DiMera demons young, don’t they? Little Rachel wanted to reunite her parents Brady and Kristen so she stole her mom’s book about the Blake family home Aremid and snuck out to locate it. Once there, she found the Woman in White (aka her grandmother) who helpfully came back from the dead to coach the little urchin on how to vanquish her father’s girlfriend. Mob moll Ava was promptly lured to Aremid and knocked out.
“That was easier than I thought,” smirked The Woman. “No kidding,” responded Rachel. Brady and Kristen found their daughter and brought her home just as Ava was revealed to be bound and gagged by The Woman. Ava assured her captor that Brady would come looking for her but she was informed that — with help from Rachel — a break-up text had been sent to Brady from Ava’s phone. “Mission accomplished,” smirked Rachel.
It doesn’t say much for the local mafia princess if she can be taken down by an 8-year-old!
The Worst
Y&R: Villain Flame Out
Jordan and Ian’s rushed exits were a letdown after the baddies had rocked Genoa City for months. Jordan died at the tack house after drinking poisoned tea and Chance arrived to question the Newmans about her death; Victor, Nikki, Nick, Victoria and Claire all talked to him without a lawyer present. Meanwhile, Jordan’s kidnapping victim, Sharon, climbed out of the sewer — after weeks of being drugged with PCP and no food, water or a bathroom — and didn’t see a doctor or go to the hospital. She just… went home.
Cut to Victor ordering Michael and his crack security team to bring Ian to the ranch. The 70+ year-old Ian overpowered the security guard, stole his gun, and held all the Newmans hostage for two episodes. Preposterously, he told Michael he could leave because he wasn’t a Newman and Michael refused. (Some lawyer — he could have had the cops there in two minutes!) Ian shot Victor who grabbed the gun and killed Ian. Nikki, Sharon and Mariah then lined up to lecture Ian’s corpse, featuring strange musings like this from Mariah: “I have a wife and a baby and they love me!”
The Newmans are a smart family who were terribly wronged by these two villains. Dumbing those A-listers down as Jordan and Ian left the stage did a disservice to them and what had been a rollicking story.
Oh, and fake out! Ian is alive.
GH: Jason’s A “Dad” Again
Stop us if you’ve heard this before: A woman in Jason’s orbit becomes pregnant and he steps in to claim the kid to protect it and/or the mother. He covered for Carly with little Michael against AJ, accepted responsibility for Sam’s baby with Sonny (who died) to save Sonny’s marriage to Carly, and is now trying to support Sasha during her pregnancy with Michael’s baby. Sasha, however, wants no part of it.
“This is my life, my child, my decisions,” she asserted to PC’s most ubiquitous uncle. “I don’t need any help.” The mob enforcer found it hard to believe that Michael would have agreed to stay out of the child’s life and pushed Sasha on it. She bristled at being called a liar and told him to go talk to Michael, which will be difficult since Michael is comatose in Germany.
What’s inconceivable about this story (pun intended) is that Jason has two kids of his own: Danny, who he rarely sees, and Jake, who he never sees. It makes no sense for Jason to be there for Sasha’s child while ignoring poor motherless Danny — never mind that given Jason’s history with Michael he’s basically the grandfather of Sasha’s baby. “Do what Michael agreed to do,” begged Sasha. “Walk away.” We doubt he’ll listen….
