Tanisha Harper Confirms General Hospital Is Testing a Jordan and Michael Pairing (Excl)
General Hospital fans have been clocking the increased screen time between Jordan Ashford and Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson), two characters who have rarely crossed paths over the years but are now working side by side at Aurora and bonding over their common trauma of physical disfigurement. Tanisha Harper (Jordan) tells Soap Opera Digest that yes, the show is testing the waters of a love connection for Jordan and Michael.
Tanisha Harper Talks Jordan and Michael’s Growing Connection
The actress says that she got a heads-up about Jordan and Michael entering each other’s storyline orbits before she and Rory Gibson began working together. “I kind of knew a bit before that it might go that way,” she winks. “It wasn’t for certain, but I knew that they were going to kind of test it out and see.”
In Harper’s view, “it made sense” to explore the possibility of an unexpected chemistry between Jordan and Michael. “It makes for good television to see that bond form between them, kind of out of the blue,” she says. “At first, they were kind of just sprinkling it in; we were starting to do some scenes together here and there. But I think the writers and Frank [Valentini, executive producer] liked it, and we’ve progressed with that.”
At this point in the story, no lines have been crossed between the two Aurora execs, and Jordan is still very much committed to her on-again boyfriend, Curtis (Donnell Turner). But he’s doing time at Pentonville, and in his absence, Jordan has found a sympathetic ear in Michael more than once. Not only that, but Michael is now arranging for her to undergo facial reconstruction surgery at the same clinic in Germany that helped him heal from his own scars.
“They have a lot of common ground,” Harper says of Jordan and Michael. “They’ve both had these severe accidents and scarring, and as we know, people kind of trauma-bond at times! Especially now that Curtis has gone away to prison and Jordan has taken over his role at the company, there is a closeness that is developing between them.”
Michael, Harper adds, “is the one person who understands what she’s going through on a deeper level. That makes for a strong connection, and I think the fans are starting to see that connection, too.”
And in the world of General Hospital, that can likely mean only one thing: a forbidden attraction that Jordan may find impossible to resist. “That seems to be where we’re headed,” Harper says. “In true soap fashion!”
The actress is having a ball bringing the story to life with GH co-star Rory Gibson. “We were friends before we started working together,” she says. “Now, working with him, it’s been nice to kind of learn each other’s rhythms and how we work and to develop that relationship. I love working with Rory! He’s a brilliant actor and I’m really excited to see where it goes.”
Harper concludes, “We’ll see what the writers have in store for us, but I do think that this could be something really interesting. It’ll make some people mad, and some people will be here for it! So I guess we’ll see what happens.”
