Soap Alum Michael Swan Joins Young and Restless

Comments

Veteran daytime actor Michael Swan is adding another soap to his resume when he appears on Young and Restless. On June 5, he posted a selfie on Instagram captioned: “Check out a fun cameo on Y&R tomorrow!” He did not share any details of what character he would be playing, but Soap Opera Digest has learned that his mystery man will be appearing in multiple episodes as part of Mariah’s storyline.

A New Mystery Man

As seen in the June 6 episode of Y&R, Swan was part of a flashback Mariah had where she was drinking in a bar and a man approached her table, noting, “Someone looks like they could use a friend.” Since returning from her business trip, Mariah has been closed off, worrying her wife, Tessa, and mother, Sharon. She’s been recalling how the villainous cult leader Ian Ward manipulated her years ago, but how Swan’s character fits into the puzzle remains to be seen.

Swan racked up numerous primetime appearances in the ‘70s and ‘80s on series like Police Woman, CHiPs, Falcon Crest, M*A*S*H, T.J. Hooker, and Murder, She Wrote. He then became a soap star when he joined the cast of As the World Turns as Duncan McKechnie in 1986. After his departure from the CBS sudser in 1996, the actor returned for some additional appearances in 2001 and 2002.

Duncan’s romance with Tamara Tunie’s Jessica Griffin on ATWT was groundbreaking for the industry. “She was just a great scene partner,” McKechnie recalled to Soap Opera Digest of his former co-star. “She was always very professional, always very prepared. And we had kind of a soap opera historical thing. We had the first interracial baby born on network television. We enjoyed great fans.”

From 1998 to 2003, the actor starred on Bold and Beautiful as Adam Alexander, ex-husband of the late Darlene Conley’s Sally Spectra and father to Bobbie Eakes’s Macy Alexander. “Of course, working with Darlene was always a kick in the pants,” Swan enthused. “She always had stories. We had so much fun!”

In recent years, Swan could be seen in television movies like Dirty Deeds, Furry Little Christmas, and Revenge Best Served Chilled, as well as heard in podcasts such as Verdict, Slayers: A Buffyverse Story, and the We’re Alive series.
