Sandra Ferguson Remembers Her Another World Co-Star
“Certainly a shock to hear of my former co star Robert Kelker-Kelly’s passing,” Ferguson wrote on Instagram. “My first years in tv on Another World were a whirlwind and Robert and I had no idea how popular our storyline would be… or what that meant. We learned together!”
On Another World, Kelker-Kelly’s character, Sam, was an edgy aspiring artist, while Ferguson’s Amanda was the sheltered young heiress to the Cory family’s publishing empire. After Sam and Amanda slept together and she learned she was pregnant, he proposed, and the pair tied the knot in March 1988. Their daughter, Alli, was born in June of that year, but the marriage was a tumultuous one and ended in divorce in 1990.
In a 2013 interview with We Love Soaps, Kelker-Kelly looked back on his intense three-year run as Sam. “It was a lot of work to process,” he noted. “Sandy, God bless her, had no acting training at all, and I had a whole bunch of theater training, which really didn’t matter all that much in soaps… They just threw us to the wolves. It was a lot of work and a lot of location shooting in New York. It was a ton of fun, but I remember the stress at the time being pretty high.”
Ferguson offered her own candid assessment of those years, acknowledging that she and her leading man clashed at times. “It was not always an easy time working together on that show,” she wrote.
But whatever difficulties they experienced early on, their relationship evolved after their Another World days.
“Years later we would laugh on calls about life,” Ferguson shared.
Kelker-Kelly went on to play Bo Brady on Days of our Lives from 1992 to 1995, taking over the role from Peter Reckell, and later returned to Another World for a 1996-98 run as Shane Roberts. His final daytime role was as Stavros Cassadine on General Hospital, which he last played in 2014.
Kelker-Kelly eventually left acting and became a professional pilot. “I know he enjoyed being a pilot,” Ferguson wrote, adding that she was “grateful to have had the opportunity to know him. It is sad news to see he’s passed.”
