Natalia Livingston’s Five Greatest GH Moments
Inheriting the role of GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Emily Quartermaine from powerhouse actress Amber Tamblyn was a daunting task, but Natalia Livingston has made the character her own, even winning an Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy for her efforts in 2005. Throughout it all, Livingston has amassed some fond memories, running the gamut from romantic to rambunctious. Read on for her list of the top five Port Charles moments she’ll always remember.
2003: WELCOME TO DAYTIME
“I’ll never forget my first day on the show. It was an amazing experience, but I was terrified. I knew I was coming into a big role and had never really done anything before. I felt so sick that whole day. I remember how sweet Stuart Damon (Alan) and Leslie Charleson (Monica) were to me and how they welcomed me. That was pretty amazing. They tried to include me in everything, every situation. They gave me hugs after each scene. They couldn’t have been nicer, kinder or more warm. They made an effort to do that. Jane Elliot (Tracy) was wonderful, too. She was absolutely amazing.”
2003: CANCER CRISIS
“I was so lucky that the show gave me Emily’s breast cancer storyline. It was great. I got to go on all these breast cancer marches [sponsored by] Revlon and Avon for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. There were so many things that I got to do, like different public service announcements. It really gave meaning to the work. Also, during that story, Emily went to a support group. There were actually women there who were breast cancer survivors, still battling [the disease]. It was amazing to have them in those scenes, real people who had experienced cancer, instead of just actors.”
2004: WEDDING AT WYNDEMERE
“The Nikolas and Emily wedding was so well done. It was such a big payoff. I know the fans were excited about it, and I loved it. I loved shooting the scenes. It was a wonderful day on-set. I loved everything about that wedding. I loved watching it afterward. I don’t think that I would have ever chosen anything quite as elaborate as Emily’s dress, but it was perfect for her because it was a fairy-tale wedding. How often do you get to experience that? It was really cool, even if it was only on-set and I was just acting.”
2006: MONKEYING AROUND
“The funniest and best gag ever played on me was by Maurice Benard (Sonny) and Steve Burton (Jason). Steve was hiding in the closet of Maurice’s dressing room operating the remote control to this talking monkey head on a table. I was sitting on the couch waiting to run lines with Maurice and had no idea what was happening. I had no idea Steve was in the closet. All of a sudden it was like, ‘Oh, my gosh! I think this thing is talking. I can’t believe this. I’m starting to lose it.’ I ran out screaming into the hallway. That’s when Steve jumped out of the closet, and Maurice came down the hallway. It was really funny. I’m going to have to get them back for that one.”
2006: LUKE, LAURA AND THE ATTACKING SQUIRRELS
“Taping Luke and Laura’s wedding [at the Los Angeles Arboretum] was fun. It’s always great when we go on location. I’d heard so much about Genie Francis (Laura), but had never met her, so it was cool to see her. Of all the things to be a part of, watching Luke and Laura get remarried was great. Since I wasn’t there for the first one, it was nice to be there for the second one. Becky Herbst (Elizabeth) and I had a bunch of downtime that day and decided to take a little adventure into the gardens there. We noticed that there were so many squirrels around. We’d never seen so many. We started approaching them to get a closer look. All of a sudden they turned into these attacking squirrels and started chasing us. We were running through the woods like crazy. It was pretty scary, I have to say.”
