My Chat With Adrienne Frantz Page 2
Devin: What inspires your music?
Adrienne: Lots of stuff. There’s a song on there called “Seren,” named after my goddaughter. Right after she was born, she was sick and almost died. I felt so helpless, so I decided to write her a letter about everything I wanted her to know about her life. Then I put it to music, so that was pretty intense. That’s one of my favorite songs on the album. My first single is called “Taken.” Devin: It sounds like there’s a story behind that one.
Adrienne (laughs): Yep. When I was writing, I got a drunk text message from a guy friend of mine professing his love. I started laughing hysterically because he already has a girlfriend. I’ve known him for years, and I knew that the next day when he realized what he did, he would apologize. Devin: Yikes. There’s a lesson.
Adrienne: Yeah, when you’re drunk you should never text message somebody who’s writing songs because anything is up for grabs. I wanted to write it so I could tell him, “Ha, ha! Look what happened.” Devin: Do you have time for a personal life? How many boyfriends do you have?
Adrienne: Are you kidding me? I have no time for men in my life. I’m really happy with being single. I’m finding my niche in the world. It’s hard to do that when you’re involved with somebody. I really feel I’m supposed to be writing music right now. Ouch! Devin: What’s wrong?
Adrienne: I stubbed my toe!Devin: Did you go outside to have a cigarette and stub your toe.
Adrienne: Yes! You know me too well.Devin: Are you in touch with any B&Bers?
Adrienne: I just talked to Winsor [Harmon, Thorne] the other day. He called to say hello. That was so sweet. I really miss everyone there and I want to go by and visit them, but I’m working so much, I haven’t had the chance. But I need to go back because I left everything in my old dressing room [sighs]. I still have to go clear it out.Devin: Are you kidding me?
Adrienne: I’m serious.Devin: Like what? Your desk?
Adrienne: Everything! I left my refrigerator, my microwave, everything! I kind of left at the last minute.Devin: Freud would say there’s a reason for leaving your stuff behind?
Adrienne: Maybe so.Devin: So, no communication with Brad [Bell, executive producer/head writer] lately?
Adrienne: No. I’ve been busy. I’ve done three features and a short film since I’ve been gone. And also a guest appearance on THAT ’70S SHOW. It was fun because I was working with Wilmer [Valderrama], who’s been a really good friend of mine for years. I didn’t tell him that I booked the job, so I just showed up and surprised him. He goes, “What are you doing here?” And I said, “You finally get to make out with me.”Devin: So the B&B fans are still asking about you.
Adrienne: I love those fans. I’ve been trying to spread my wings and see what else is out there for me to do. I’m really happy now. My life has taken all sorts of twists and turns. One project stops and then I have 10 more things to do. I’m getting ready to start shooting my first music video and I’m going to produce it myself. A lot of artists will hire people to come up with concepts for their music videos, but I wrote all my own songs, so I already have a vision. My video is going to be controversial.Devin: Your voice got suddenly quiet. Did you go back to your bedroom and you don’t want to wake somebody up?
Adrienne: No [laughs]! I told you I have no time for men. I wish there was someone here, but I can’t imagine being serious with anyone right now.Devin: For selfish reasons, I want you to come back, but I wish you all the luck in the world.
Adrienne: Thanks, honey. I miss you!For updates on Adrienne’s singing career, go to her music page on myspace.com
