My Chat With Adrienne Frantz

Comments

Adrienne Frantz (very sleepy): Hello.
Devin Owens: Did I wake you up?
Adrienne: Oh, shoot! Shoot, shoot, shoot. I’m sorry. Devin (laughing): Do you want me to call you later?
Adrienne: Can you give me just 10 minutes.
Devin: Of course.
Adrienne: Thanks, Dev.

(Fifteen minutes later, I call back and Adrienne sounds more awake … well, a little.)

Devin: You still have your morning voice.
Adrienne: I know. I’m drinking Propel right now. Wow. These night shoots really mess up your sleeping patterns. I didn’t work last night, but I still have trouble getting to sleep.
Devin: Are you having weird dreams, too?
Adrienne: Really weird. Especially since I’m doing a horror movie.Devin: Another one?
Adrienne: The first one [Hack!] is more of a comedy/horror thing. This one is serious and from Lionsgate Films. I’m really excited. It’s called Ed Gein and it’s about a real-life serial killer [of the same name] in the 1950s. Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs have all been based on this guy. He was really sick.Devin: Uh, sounds gross.
Adrienne: They cut some of the really graphic, over-the-top, disgusting stuff out but the movie is still pretty much true to the real story, so yeah, it’s really scary.Devin: Are you one of the victims?
Adrienne: I don’t die.
Devin: How would you describe your character?
Adrienne: I play a real character, the girlfriend of the deputy. I’ve been having a great time. I just finished it. We shot most of it at night, from 7 p.m. until the morning. Devin: Who else is in it?
Adrienne: Kane Hodder, who played Jason in some of the Friday the 13th movies. The first scene I was doing with Kane was close to the end of the movie, so I hadn’t even met him yet. I was laying on this giant slab of wood and he comes over with this giant metal hook and pounds it next to my head. I went, “Oh, my God!” and I started crying. I was supposed to be crying in the scene anyway, but he scared the crap out of me. It was pretty funny.Devin: Where were you filming?
Adrienne: There’s a creepy ranch out in Santa Clarita [north of L.A.], where they have filmed a lot of scary movies. I had to crawl across the ground in this scene and got bitten by a billion bugs. Devin: Well, I don’t go to horror movies, but when this comes out, I might — and I’m stressing might — make an exception.
Adrienne: I don’t like horror movies either. They terrify me!Devin: And what’s going on with your music?
Adrienne: My album is finished. It comes out in November overseas and then February here. I’m planning to go on tour in November. Devin: What’s the name of your album?
Adrienne: Anomaly. There’s a song on the album by that name. It’s my get-it-on song. Devin: Did you write all the songs?
Adrienne: Yes.Devin: Is it all new stuff? I have your demo from way back when and I loved those songs.
Adrienne: There’s one song I wrote years ago, then there are two songs from my demo and the rest is new stuff.
