Mind Games
“Welcome to Fantasy Island!” Sure, that was Mr. Roarke’s opening line every week on the ABC series of the same name, but these days, it certainly could apply to GENERAL HOSPITAL’s favorite watering hole, Jake’s. Social butterflies Robin, Elizabeth, Emily, Kelly and Lainey gathered to drown their romantic sorrows and fantasize about some really hot sex with Dr. McDreamy, Patrick Drake. However, the ladies aren’t the only ones with active imaginations. In episodes set to air July 11 and 12, a rag-tag group of Cro-Magnons, including Patrick, Ric, Nikolas, Lucky and Max, meet up at the bar and they all have a certain manipulative blonde on their respective minds. Here, Laura Wright addresses Carly’s newfound popularity.Soap Opera Digest: So, how did this whole fantasy sequence come about?
Laura Wright: I heard about it three weeks beforehand and I thought, “Oh, my God. Everyone’s going to hate me! The fans are going to be like, “Why is everyone fantasizing about her [laughs]?
” So my initial response was like, “Oh, great.” But it’s interesting the way they wrote it.
Digest: How do the the fantasies come up in the story?
Wright: Carly shows up at the bar and they’re all together. Carly’s like, “Wow, isn’t this a picture. Let me see, hmmm, Max, you can’t stand Ric, but you’re having a beer with him? You two [Lucky and Nikolas] don’t really like Patrick. What could you guys all have in common?” And they’re like, “Carly!”Digest: How are the men’s daydreams different than the ladies’?
Wright: These fantasies aren’t just that. They reflect what’s going on in their lives, as well, and I find that to be interesting.Digest: For example?
Wright: One of the people who fantasizes about her is her cousin, Lucky [laughs]. But yet he’s popping a pill and she’s like, “I bet your wife doesn’t know about that.” And he’s like, “You’re my cousin. What are you doing here?
And she’s like, “Hey, it’s your fantasy, not mine.” Greg [Vaughan, Lucky] kept saying, “But their cousins,” and I’m like, “Hey, they’ve got cousins doing it on GUIDING LIGHT!”Digest: Taping all those fantasies must have made for a strange day at the office.
Wright: I think it might have been a chemistry test because when they thought Ingo [Rademacher, Jax] was leaving they were probably like, “Who are we going to put her with?
Let’s see her kiss all these guys and see what happens [laughs].”
