Jon Lindstrom: Feeling Free to Do Everything

Comments

AS THE WORLD TURNS’s Craig has to contend with criminal charges and a brand-new son. Offscreen, his multi-talented portrayer, Jon Lindstrom, is finding that he can have it all. We talked to the actor about some of his non-soap projects!Soap Opera Weekly: So, tell me about this film project you just finished!

Jon Lindstrom: I just wrapped my first lead in an independent feature called You Can’t Have It All, which shot on location in Philadelphia. It was written and directed by a fellow named Jay Arnold, who comes out of advertising; he’s a commercial director and whatnot. It’s his first feature. Wendie Malick from JUST SHOOT ME, who is doing the new Valerie Bertinelli [TV Land] sitcom, HOT IN CLEVELAND, plays my sister. We had a great time! The cast also has a young actor from New York named Chris Murrah, and Natalia Cigliuti (ex-Anita, ALL MY CHILDREN) from RAISING THE BAR. So we have a really terrific cast, with some other great character actors who came from New York and a few local people from Philadelphia.

Weekly: And you were commuting back and forth, doing both the film and ATWT?

Lindstrom: I was in almost every scene, which meant a lot of long days and a couple commutes on the train back to New York to shoot a bunch of WORLD TURNS shows, and then getting back on the train.

Weekly: What’s the premise of the film?

Lindstrom: It’s not farce or slapstick. It’s a romantic comedy that I think covers a wonderful spectrum, from humor to drama to real-life situations. It’s basically about a man who is, in middle age, forcibly retired from a very successful company. He finds himself out of work, with a lot of money and nothing to do, and realizes something very important about himself that he never was able to accept. It’s a great part, and we had a ball. I hope it’ll be a sweet little movie.

Weekly: So, what does the release date look like?

Lindstrom: It’ll probably do the festival circuit before anything. I know there are offers to pick it up already, but I don’t think they’re making any deal right now. They want to get the film posted and in the can, lock it all down, and then shop it or do festivals. The good thing is they have offers to get it out!

Weekly: And in more immediate release news, fans can also pick up some of your music, can’t they?

Lindstrom: My old band, The High Lonesome, is remastering our sole record release, called Feel Free to Do So. Plus, there are never-before-heard tracks that have been recorded but never been released, and a brand-new song that we’re going in the studio to do. I’m really excited about that, because we haven’t been able to play together in at least 10 years.

Weekly: I actually remember when you were in The High Lonesome and that album came out! You were on GENERAL HOSPITAL at the time.

Lindstrom: Our record did exceptionally well, considering we were just a little old band out of L.A. We had two hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100, back in 1995-’96! But I listened to the record the other day, and heard some of the remastered tracks, and it’s amazing how well it holds up. So we’re really excited about that, and it will be going up on iTunes and Rhapsody and all those sites. Hopefully by midsummer. We had hoped to have it up by now, but remastering takes a lot longer than I thought. People can always check my Web site, jonlindstrom.com, for any information.
