John Oliver’s Days of Our Lives Debut Is Here — Episode Dates and Who He’s Playing
John Oliver makes his highly anticipated Days of Our Lives debut this week and will appear as Devlin St. John in the episodes streaming Tuesday, August 11, Wednesday, August 12, and Friday, August 14 on the Peacock soap.
John Oliver Completes His Soap Opera Tour On DAYS
This past March, Oliver — the Emmy-winning comedian and host of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver — did a segment on his show claiming to be jealous of ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who has had a decade-long recurring role on General Hospital as Brick, and offered himself up to any daytime dramas that wanted to give him a juicy role. By the end of June, he announced on air that he’d been cast on both General Hospital and Days of Our Lives.
When the news of Oliver’s appearance broke, DAYS Executive Producer Ken Corday said in a statement, “When John Oliver said, ‘Call me, soaps, I’m available and willing to travel. I want to be a part of that world,’ our world, we had to heed the call!”
DAYS typically tapes nearly a year in advance, and to ensure that Oliver’s episodes would make it to air as quickly as possible, his scenes were dropped into episodes that had already been filmed.

Oliver’s character, Devlin St. John, is Salem’s Chief Water Inspector, which will involve him in the storyline surrounding EJ attempting to cover up how his illegal disposal of contaminated drugs affected some of the town’s water supply. The promo for this week’s episodes reveals that he will share scenes with Jackée Harry (Paulina Price), and will also interact heavily with Dan Feuerriegel (EJ DiMera) and Maggie Carney (Rita Lesley).
Harry teased Paulina’s scenes with Devlin to TV Insider, saying, “He is trying to get one over on the city of Salem and she is not having it. And then he’s onto the next victim.”
In June, Access Hollywood was on the DAYS set when Oliver was shooting his appearance, and he told the outlet that the guest gig “is a dream come true,” adding, “People on soaps work incredibly hard. The schedule is nuts. This moves so fast. You do not want to be the sand in the gears of a machine that works like this… I’m just trying not to [mess] it up!”
Feuerriegel praised Oliver to Access Hollywood, sharing, “Hearing John talk about how hard we work… it’s a lovely thing,” he shared. “It’s a nice kind of, feather in the cap, as they say. And that being said, John has been working really hard, too. He’s basically dropped into the deep end of the pool and he’s doing amazingly.”
On Instagram, Feuerriegel added, “Can’t wait for y’all to enjoy the shenanigans. John crushes it.”
Speaking to Soaps.com, Feuerriegel spilled a few more details about EJ’s encounter with Devlin. “We did all the things,” the actor said. “Everything you would think cliché in a soap, we did. I got slapped. I slapped.”
Oliver’s three-day run on General Hospital aired in July. On that show, he portrayed Z, the wily head of the World Security Bureau (WSB).
