Who Is Gio on General Hospital?
Giovanni, better known as Gio on General Hospital is a new face, so it’s only natural fans are curious about the character and his portrayer. Gio is being portrayed by actor Giovanni Mazza, who made his daytime debut in the May 16, 2024 episode. Before joining the cast of GH, he appeared in some short films, an episode of Chicago Fire, and Bella and the Bulldogs. He is also a talented violinist, as fans discovered in his very first episode of the soap!
Giovanni Palmieri arrived at the church for Brook Lynn Quartermaine and Harrison Chase’s wedding and the first person he ran into was Josslyn Jacks. He introduced himself as Brook Lynn’s cousin and explained he wouldn’t need to be seated because he would be playing the violin for the ceremony. After performing some Bach as the wedding party entered, he switched to the traditional wedding march as Brook Lynn came down the aisle.
At the reception, Gio sought out his uncle Sonny Corinthos and was introduced to his date, Natalia Rogers-Ramirez. When she complimented his playing at the ceremony, Gio explained that he would never be as good as his mother, but was grateful to Sonny for paying for his musical education. Sonny was confident the kid would become a concert violinist one day. Gio later revealed to Chase that his father was in the military and died in Afghanistan. Told that Dex Heller was also a veteran, Gio went over to thank him for his service.

Gio was invited to move into the Quartermaine mansion, which delighted his aunt, Lois Cerullo, and he also started a new job working at the Metro Court pool. There, he solidified his friendship with Josslyn, who was working as a lifeguard for the summer. When Trina Robinson mentioned that they needed a musician for a gallery opening, Gio auditioned for her and Ava Jerome and got the job. He returned the favor by telling Joss and Trina about an available apartment above the garage at the Quartermaines and they moved in. While talking about Gio with Carly Corinthos, Lois explained that Gio’s mother, Camilla, fell for Francis Palmieri and they eloped before he was deployed. Unfortunately, the soldier was killed before he could return and never knew his son. Gio also lost his mother at age 10, so Sonny stepped in to help pay for the boy’s education.
When Trina was upset — along with the rest of her family — by the news that Heather was being let out of prison, Gio went over to her place to check on her and spent the night on the couch so she would feel safe. He later supported Trina when she had to testify in Ava’s defense at her trial for killing Kristina’s baby. At Christmastime, Gio had a run-in with a young woman in Rice Plaza who asked him to hang on to a wallet she had just stolen. She later explained she’d taken it from a vendor who had ripped a woman off so she could pay her back and then claim to have found the wallet. This young woman then turned out to be Emma Drake, who was back in town after being expelled from school.
Gio began hanging out with Port Charles’ younger set, and when Emma asked him to play at a fundraiser for her students against animal cruelty group, he initially thought she was running another scam but agreed. Though when she came on a little strong recruiting Josslyn, he urged her to take it down a notch. Gio opened up to Dante Falconeri about not feeling like he fits in at the Quartermaines, but Tracy later appreciated his input on a family matter.
