GH’s Chloe Lanier On Nelle’s Surprise Past

Comments

On the October 24 episode of GH, Curtis reported to Michael that his gal pal, Nelle, had spent a year as a patient in a mental institution. “I didn’t know anything about that until I saw it in the script,” portrayer Chloe Lanier reports. “When I read it, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, why did no one tell me this?’ But then I was like, ‘You know what? I’ve played it kind of like that this whole time, like she might be just a little off her rocker.’ So it works.” The actress says that she has welcomed Nelle’s recent return to bad-girl form. “For a while, she and Michael were just having their honeymoon phase and it was fun, but that’s only fun for so long and then you want to get into the nitty-gritty and cause some drama! It is a soap opera, after all. It’s been really fun for me because Nelle has always been a little bit of a creeper. She’s always had a chip on her shoulder and she’s always been a little bit psycho; she’s had a little psycho underneath, lingering inside of her, that comes out every now and then. So I’m loving it. I don’t want to be sipping tea and having a good time! I want to, like, hit someone over the head with a shovel or something [laughs]. Just something insane. I mean, Nelle is a weird girl. She’s arguably the weirdest character I’ve ever played, and there are so many sides to her, so many different personalities that it’s just so much fun to play.”
