Chase and Brook Lynn’s quest to become parents has been met with roadblock after roadblock on General Hospital, including the discovery that Chase is sterile. The subject of baby-making also dredged up Brook Lynn’s long-held secret: that she gave birth to a child back in the day, which she gave up for adoption. Chase barely had time to absorb that news before his wife hit him with another life-changing bit of information: the man whose baby she had is none other than Dante Falconeri, Chase’s trusted pal and PCPD partner.

In a new interview with Woman’s World, Swickard weighed in on the story development, saying, “I don’t think Chase fully knows how to process it yet or what it means for their future and what options they have — and now, he’s getting another massive curveball from Brook Lynn.” He observed, “Chase is dealing with a lot, frankly, and just trying to keep his head above water.”

An avowed “ChaLynn” fan himself, Swickard voiced his appreciation for the actress with whom he’s navigating these fictional marital difficulties, Amanda Setton (Brook Lynn). “It’s been so sweet to build this relationship with her and I’m so grateful to her, because she pushes me,” he told the publication. “She’s just a phenomenal actress. She’s had a very full career, and now we’re in similar stages with family and young kids, so we get along really well.”

On paper, Chase (a by-the-book cop) and Brook Lynn (an impulsive heiress) were not the most obvious match, but Swickard thinks the pairing is a classic example of opposites attracting. “They kind of butted heads at first, but Chase is mesmerized by her,” he mused. “She’s so strong and strong-willed. She’s everything that he’s not, and vice versa, so they’ve got a neat relationship. There’s something so fun in that dichotomy.” Since the couple tied the knot last year, Swickard has been impressed by Chase’s maturity as a spouse, saying, “He’s just got this way about being a husband that I aspire to be as Josh, and it’s great to see that in a soap character we’re all watching.”

Marrying into the Quartermaine clan has had other benefits for Swickard, whose own Port Charles family saw its ranks diminish last year with the death of Chase’s father, played by Gregory Harrison, and the decision of his brother, Finn, played by Michael Easton, to move away with his daughter, Violet, played by Jophielle Love. Their exits were “really hard for me, personally, and for Chase,” the actor acknowledged. “There were two months where I was really broken up about it, because this show really is family — off camera and on.”

Which is why he’s so grateful for his Port Charles in-laws. “Now I get to work with Jane frickin’ Elliot [who plays Tracy] and the Quartermaine crew,” Swickard raved to the outlet. “For years, every time I saw them blocking in our living room or kitchen or for Thanksgiving episodes, I was like, ‘That looks fun!’ Now, I see myself standing in the room with all of them, and I’m like, ‘Hey, this is good.’ ”

Love Makes A Family: Marrying into the Quartermaine family via his union to Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) has helped Josh Swickard cope with the absences of Chase’s kin (from l.), Gregory Harrison’s Gregory, Michael Easton’s Finn and Jophielle Love’s Violet.
