General Hospital’s Bryce Durfee, Vaughn, Shares His Real-Life Love Story (Exclusive)

Comments

On General Hospital, Bryce Durfee plays WSB Agent Vaughn, who is getting arguably a little too close for professional comfort to agency newbie Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), who he kissed — for real, this time! — on the July 2 episode of GH. In real life, the actor has been happily married to wife Amber Rood Durfee since September 2019 (“married for five years, together for 12,” as he puts it). Durfee (and his missus) opened up to Soap Opera Digest about their adorable love story.

The Road To Romance

The pair originally connected on social meia due to a mutual friend. “He and Amber had lived together in L.A. at one point; they were roommates,” begins Durfee. “Then she left L.A. and went back to Vermont,” where she was born and raised. “Jump to a couple of years later, I meet [her former roommate] at a casting for Power Rangers, of all the shows, and we got acquainted, became best friends and we’re up in [Lake] Tahoe on a trip, took an Instagram photo, he posted it, and apparently, Amber commented it was like, ‘Oh my God, who is this guy?’

“Right around the same time she commented that, I was complaining to him about dating in L.A.,” Durfee continues. “And he was like, ‘Oh, light bulb, you two should meet! She’s amazing, you’re amazing. You’re both into nature and hiking and all that stuff.’ ”

The actor was all for it — but his future wife put on the brakes. “She found out that I was 10 years younger and an actor and a model, and she said, ‘Yeah, no, pass. Hard pass,’ ” he reports with a chuckle. Durfee didn’t let that discourage him, though. “I was a little more persistent,” he grins. “I may have stalked her on Facebook a little bit and sent her a message and continue to send her messages. Then we kind of opened up a dialogue and started talking.”

Eventually, they met in person. “We had been talking, texting and messaging for three months, I think it was, before Amber came back out to California with her brother on a snowboard trip,” Durfee recalls. “She said,’I’m just gonna stop in L.A. on my way to Tahoe.’ She stopped at a rest area, washed her hair in the sink and tried to, like, gussy up a little bit before meeting me. This was back in 2012.”

Not only did sparks fly immediately, but Durfee’s future brother-in-law was also quickly won over by him. “As I’m meeting her and go to hug her, her brother — who is a very muscular, attractive man, is standing like 100 paces behind her, staring at me, which was a little unnerving!” the actor says. “And he was very skeptical of me, mind you, because of the modeling and the acting, and then an hour later, we were best friends! And she and I have been together ever since.”

Fur Family

The couple, who got engaged in 2019 and tied the knot later that same year, stays true to their social media roots with a joint TikTok account and on Instagram, where they post frequent videos poking fun at the trappings of married life and spotlighting not only their beloved rescue dogs, Smoky and Minnie, but the adoptable pups at Long Beach Animal Care Services. “My wife is obsessed with dogs and volunteers at the shelter,” Durfee says proudly. “Both of our dogs are foster fails. One we rescued from South Korea and our other is a street dog who they found running around, pregnant with eight puppies. They are our little babies! We are not going to have kids, so those are our kids. They’re our life.”
