General Hospital Preempted Multiple Days This Week For Major League Baseball Wild Card Games
Preemptions are a fact of life, though it’s still frustrating for soap fans when their favorite shows are bumped from their regular schedule for breaking news or planned sporting events. This week, General Hospital was preempted on Tuesday, September 30, and Wednesday, October 1, as the Major League Baseball postseason kicks off with wild card games, and will be preempted one last time on Thursday, October 2. GH will return to its regularly scheduled programming on Friday, October 3.
A Short Break
Major League Baseball’s postseason consists of a wild card series for both the American and National League, followed by each league’s division series, and then the World Series face-off between the winners of the division series. On Tuesday and Wednesday, at 2 p.m. ET, ABC will be broadcasting the National League’s wild-card matchup between the San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs. As this is a best-of-three series, because the Cubs won on Tuesday and the Padres won on Wednesday, a tie-breaker game will need to be held on Thursday, once again preempting GH.
Because this is a scheduled preemption, no new episodes of GH aired during the affected dates on ABC. That means that there were no new episodes uploaded to ABC.com or Hulu later in the day, either. The same will be true on Thursday when the third and final playoff game airs — no new episode will be airing or available to stream anywhere.
This is a particularly inopportune time for GH to be preempted, with Tracy encountering a mysterious stranger in the Quartermaine crypt; Alexis, Ava, and Kristina keeping Ric prisoner in the basement; the ongoing mysteries of how Nathan returned from the dead, and who shot Drew and more!
