FIRST REACTION! ALISON SWEENEY ON EMMY NOM

Comments

"I will be honest; I wanted this so much. I really, really wanted this,” admits Alison Sweeney, who received her first-ever Emmy nomination — as Lead Actress — after a 21-year run as DAYS’s Sami.

"I feel giddy. It’s very exciting. I am thrilled, obviously. And speechless,” she tells Digest. "I have a perma-grin that I haven’t taken off my face. To have gotten this in this year in particular means so much to me." The actress reveals that the nod means more to her than people may realize. "It’s really special to be acknowledged by your peers,” she says. "I’ve been very lucky at DAYS — and certainly with my character — that I’ve had tremendous fan reaction that always made me feel supported and encouraged that I was on the right track and doing things people liked and hated [laughs], but it is different from your peers. I don’t know if it’s appropriate to say, but I’ll be honest: It was always hard. I always felt let down that I wasn’t in that category and I would always admire the groups that would get to go and be nominated and celebrated by their peers. It was always bittersweet to watch it knowing that I wasn’t a part of that group.”

Now she is, and she’s not the only one excited about the milestone. “It’s really amazing to see the support and the friends who have texted and called already! It’s been non-stop and that’s awesome, too."
