Exclusive: DAYS’s Raven Bowens On Why Chanel ‘Would Never Betray Johnny’

Days of our Lives‘s Johnny has been stewing since he caught his wife, Chanel, going at it beneath the sheets with Alex on the Body and Soul set, or so he thinks. (In reality, it wasn’t Chanel, but rather the soap’s publicist, Stephanie, that Alex was hooking up with.) While Johnny prepares to confront his wife about the incident, the major mix-up has left Chanel confused about her husband’s mood and attitude.
History Repeats Itself?
Raven Bowens, who plays Chanel, got a kick out of the twist the writers cooked up for Alex, Johnny and Chanel. “Not only did we get to play the soap tropes when we were playing [characters] on the soap, but then it also stirred up all this drama, the, ‘I think I saw that, but I didn’t see it. Did I dream it?’ ” enthuses Raven Bowens (Chanel), referring to Johnny’s misconception of what he walked in on. “There’s a lot of distortion of reality.”
Chanel’s far from chaste past with Alex — she had a threesome with him and Allie — has only fueled the fires of Johnny’s imagination about what he thinks he witnessed. “There’s a lot more distrust from him,” notes Bowens. “He believes that because Chanel and Alex were intimate in the past and still have such strong chemistry that something is going on between them. Then Chanel and Alex start to spend more time together, because they’re running lines, and their relationship starts to change. The more time they spend together, the more they seem to maybe not hate each other anymore. And Johnny becomes more and more upset and insecure and all that follows.”
But is any of the above actually stirring up new feelings and attraction for Alex on Chanel’s part? Or is the pair’s current relationship as Body and Soul co-stars strictly business? “With Alex, even previously, there was always a physical attraction,” admits Bowens. “And so I think that stuff is stirred up in Chanel again when they’re doing these kissing scenes, these love scenes and whatever. That does stir something up in her body on a physical level. But on a mental level, she’s not attracted to Alex at all because of their past.”
So while Johnny may believe the worst about his wife, Chanel is still completely committed to him. “Even if there was [something stirring] with Alex, Chanel would block it,” aserts Bowens. “But I think that she’s a woman, Alex is a man, he’s sexy, and they’re having these moments. So she feels real physical attraction and chemistry with him. But Chanel loves Johnny, and she would never betray Johnny.”
