Die, Die, My Darling
Caroline Forrester
End Of Time: 1990
The Swan Song: Not long after Ridge and Caroline married, she found out she had leukemia and wasn’t long for this world. Not wanting to burden her hubby, Caroline kept the news to herself, but he eventually found out anyway (thanks, Brooke). As her fate came perilously close, Caroline dressed to the nines and invited her father, Bill Spencer, and Ridge’s shattered family to a formal party so everyone could get along for just one night. By the end of the evening, Caroline’s condition seriously deteriorated and Ridge had to carry her in his arms to the nearby guesthouse. There, the couple reclined next to each other on the bed, where Caroline actually suggested that her one-time rival, Brooke, be her replacement. After Ridge read from the Bible, Caroline quietly laid her head on his chest. “I can hear your heart beating,” she whispered and fell into permanent slumber.
Grant Chambers
End Of Time: 1998
The Swan Song: Grant and Macy were increasingly disheartened when their repeated efforts to have a baby yielded nil results. Tests proved later that Grant was infertile because of testicular cancer, which quickly spread. After he was admitted to the hospital, his determined wife made plans to fly to Mexico to investigate an experimental treatment. But before Macy could depart, she received a call from Grant to come to the hospital. While awaiting her arrival, Grant asked for his doctor’s help so he could get dressed. Upon entering his hospital room, a bewildered Macy found Grant nattily attired in a suit and tie, and excitedly wondered if this meant he was well enough to be released. Grant answered that in a way he was — for good. After they reminisced about happier times (such as when they opened Insomnia together), Grant asked Macy to sing for him. With tears streaming down her face, Macy warbled “Wind Beneath My Wings,” until Grant took his last breath.
Becky Moore Garrison
End Of Time: 2000
The Swan Song: Although Becky had pancreatic cancer and not much time to live, C.J. still wanted to marry her. After they tied the knot, the newlyweds made the most of their time together, which included a romantic dinner at Cafe Russe. But while dancing close, a weakened Becky collapsed in her husband’s arms. His first reaction was to bring Becky to the hospital, but she persuaded him to take her home instead. Becky took to her bed and said tender good-byes to her toddler son, little Eric, as well as cousin Amber. Once alone with C.J., Becky asked him to talk about their wedding, which he did before kissing her one last time. Becky smiled, closed her eyes and quietly passed away. “You’re okay now,” sobbed a grief-stricken C.J.
Taylor Hayes Forrester
End Of Time: 2002
The Swan Song: After being shot by Sheila, Taylor was in critical condition. Life-saving surgery was out of the question because her heart rate was increasing at an alarming rate, which medicine failed to slow. When Ridge entered his wife’s hospital room, he was stunned to find her detached from her IV and monitors. That’s when Taylor explained that nothing more could be done for her and she wanted to share her last moments on Earth with Ridge, unencumbered by machines. With her life ebbing away, Taylor asked Ridge to help her stand with him and he gently pulled her out of bed and to her feet. “Good-bye, sweetheart,” Taylor whispered and went limp in his arms.
Felicia Forrester
End Of Time: 2006
The Swan Song: When her cancer returned, Felicia opted to forego treatment in favor of a peaceful death. As her condition deteriorated, Felicia summoned her family, as well as Nick and Dante, to her deathbed. Stephanie, who was already distraught that her daughter wasn’t doing everything in her power to battle her disease, refused to participate in the champagne toast led by Nick. Loved ones remained stoic as Felicia poignantly said farewell to them, one at a time. Finally, Stephanie sat at her daughter’s bedside and urged her to fight, but Felicia gasped, then died in her mother’s arms.
