DAYS Exclusive: Robert Scott Wilson Has His Own Private Mountain Getaway
Robert Scott Wilson (Alex) looks forward to his Days of Our Lives breaks more than ever now that he’s settled into his new vacation home in Big Bear, CA. “I have a house up there, and it’s finally snowing,” says Wilson, who notes that he relishes the opportunity to “kind of tuck away in the mountains for a few days. I’ve been there a few times, but there hasn’t been a lot of fresh natural snow, so it was just going to the mountains. I snowboard, so it will be nice to have actual snow in the area and get that little escape from L.A.”
Home, Home On The Mountain Range
Wilson bought the mountain getaway “back in October,” he shares. “I just wanted another property, someplace that we [Wilson and his girlfriend, Casey] can actually tangibly use, because we weren’t going to my other one as much,” he recounts about his residence in Texas, which he recently put on the market. “I just wanted a little investment property in a place that I could actually get to without always having to learn about my schedule at work,” he explains. “It takes a little over two hours to get there. Our schedule at DAYS is always changing, so it’s nice to have a place that I can access easily. I’m really happy so far.”
Wilson notes that he’s introduced his girlfriend to snowboarding. “She just got into it. She’s still learning,” says Wilson. “I’m trying to teach her all my ways. It’s been a journey. She’s almost got it all together. She’s just putting those final little pieces together to be able to be confident enough to go down the mountains and different trails. It’s hard. It’s not a natural thing, but she’s been doing really, really good. I’m proud of her. She’s faced her fear.”
When Wilson’s not visiting his new Big Bear house, he usually rents the place out. “I have it up on Airbnb,” he explains. “It rents most of the time, especially during the winter season. It’s a great little escape. It’s completely furnished and decked out, so it’s good to go, man.”
Not that the actor has had too much to do with the house’s aesthetics. Most of the credit goes to the people he bought the place from. “It was a brand new construction, and they had really good taste,” enthuses Wilson. “So when they were showing it, I asked to have it furnished the way they had it. Then I just put some of my own finishing touches on it to make it a little bit more me. But a lot of it was already there, and it was all the stuff that I had wanted to do anyway. So it all just worked out.”
What “finishing touches” did Wilson actually add to the decor mix? “I put up some artwork,” shares Wilson. “And there was certain bedding and things like that that I wanted. Then I put a new hot tub in the backyard and stuff like that, because you really need to have a hot tub up there. People want to rent something for the winter and be able to go in the hot tub. So you’ve got to have that.”
Eventually, he’s hoping to introduce his Salem pals to the property. “Nobody from the show has been there yet, but I was just in Mammoth with Galen [Gering, Rafe],” says Wilson. “I usually go up there and snowboard, too. I was there a couple weeks ago with Galen. He hasn’t seen my house in Big Bear yet, but maybe soon.”
