Danny And Christine Get Engaged On Young And Restless, Reveal Lauralee Bell and Michael Damian!
Fans of the long-running romance of Danny Romalotti and Christine (formerly Cricket) Blair on Young and Restless have a lot to look forward to. On the Thursday, July 10 episode, Danny will propose to Christine — and according to their portrayers, Michael Damian and Lauralee Bell, her answer is a resounding yes!
The Road Back To The Altar
Danny and Christine’s sweet courtship led to them first tying the knot in Hawaii back in 1990. That marriage was torn asunder after Danny cheated with Phyllis Summers, who passed off her baby boy, Daniel, as Danny’s biological son (which was later proven not to be the case). Christine went on to marry Paul Williams twice (and divorce him twice), but she and Danny reunited last year.
“It’s come to that point where they both want to take it to the next level,” Damian told TV Insider by way of explaining what prompts his character to propose to Bell’s. The actor noted that this time, he believes the duo has what it takes to go the distance (even in the world of soaps, where marriages rarely last!). “I hate to use the cliché words, but they’re older and wiser, and maybe have learned from the past,” he mused, adding, “They were each other’s first love, so I think it’s really wonderful that they found it again. This time, it’ll be even better.”
The actor gave high marks to the proposal, teasing that “Danny sets up something pretty special, and the audience is going to get to relive some of the great highlight moments of their relationship going way back. And that’s pretty rare where you can dig into the vault. It’s like a time warp, and it’s very touching and really beautiful.”
Chatting with People, Bell echoed Damian’s enthusiasm. When she found out that Danny was going to pop the question, she said that both she and her leading man were “super, super excited” given that a second walk down the aisle has “been 35 years in the making.” The actress teased, “And we couldn’t wait much longer because … if one of us has to get down on a knee, perhaps it’s not going to be any prettier in 10 years.”
Looking ahead to the wedding, both actors are in the dark about how the show will mount Danny and Christine’s “I do,” take two — and that’s okay with them. “It’s fun because I can imagine that there will be six people there or maybe half the cast,” Bell explained — but she assured People that she would document the entire process for her fans on Instagram.
As for whether Danny and Christine’s nuptials might make Phyllis dig back into her old playbook of trying to keep the couple apart, Bell acknowledged that Christine’s longtime rival “will obviously be scheming something,” saying she hoped that despite whatever mischief Phyllis got into, “nothing affects the actual ‘I do,’ ”
Damian did have one fearless prediction, though, when he spoke to People, saying that he could imagine Phyllis “maybe impersonating the priest.”
