CBS Renews Beyond the Gates for Two More Seasons!

Comments

The youngest soap in the daytime lineup, Beyond the Gates, will continue to shine on CBS! The show, which is currently in its second season, has been re-upped by the network for Seasons 3 and 4, guaranteeing that it will remain on the air through the 2027-28 season.

The Show Must Go On

Deadline reported that the good news was handed down during a press briefing on April 15, where the president of CBS Entertainment, Amy Reisenbach, spoke highly of the soap’s performance. “Beyond the Gates immediately improved the time period, has enthusiastically been embraced by the daytime community and is getting good critical acclaim in the press,” she noted.

Beyond the Gates premiered on February 24, 2025 and was CBS’s first new soap since The Bold and the Beautiful launched in March 1987. Since that time, the network had said good-bye to its two longest-running daytime dramas, Guiding Light (which signed off in September 2009) and As the World Turns (which had its series finale in September 2010). BTG was the first new soap on any TV network since NBC’s Passions, which ran from 1999-2006 (and continued on DirecTV through 2007). It was renewed for a second season in May 2025.

The show was created by acclaimed soap scribe Michele Val Jean, who continues to serve as its head writer, showrunner and executive producer. BTG’s other EPs are Sheila Ducksworth, Robert Guza Jr., Julie Carruthers, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner and Anna Saalfeld. Val Jean shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she had first connected with Ducksworth via Vivica A. Fox (Stephanie, The Young and the Restless), who played Maya on the short-lived NBC soap Generations, where Val Jean began her soap writing career. “We wanted to have a show on the air that spoke to a different side of the Black experience,” Val Jean explained of the genesis of Beyond the Gates. “Not the downtrodden, not the ghettoized. We wanted to show rich, Black people doing messy things.”

Carruthers got to break the exciting news on the set, unveiling a cake decorated with the number 2 written in icing as the cast and crew applauded. A video of the special moment was shared on Instagram by Angela Fairley, who plays Deanna McBride. “2 more years – BTG RENEWED,” Fairley enthused in the caption. RhonniRose Mantilla, who plays Chelsea, also shared her excitement on Instagram, writing, “NOT ONE BUT TWOOOOOOO🎉🎊🎁🍾 what a gift. Yall stickin with us?? Keep watching, and if you’re new, welcome. We’ll give ya a show😘.”

The series is filmed in Atlanta, GA and is set in an affluent African-American community outside of Washington, D.C., and its core family is the Duprees, represented by matriarch Anita (Tamara Tunie) and patriarch Vernon (Clifton Davis) and their daughters, Dani (Karla Mosley) and Nicole (Daphnee Duplaix).

Congratulations to the talented cast and crew of Beyond the Gates — and, of course, its legions of fans!
