Catching Up With…Finola Hughes (ex-Anna, GH/NIGHT SHIFT/AMC; ex-Alex, AMC)
You’ve read in Digest what fan fave Finola Hughes has been up to, but here’s some of our chat that didn’t make it into the magazine.
Soap Opera Digest: How’s your gig going with Viviscal [www.viviscal.com], the hair loss prevention aid?
Finola Hughes: Everyone I tell I’m doing this, they ask, “Can I get some [laughs]?” It can be taken as a health benefit but it also about restoring your femininity if you feel that’s what’s been robbed. The confidence factor is priceless.
Digest: You’ve said one of the causes of hair loss is stress, but how can you not be stressed as a working mom?
Hughes: First of all, a healthy diet is important. That, along with stress releases, can be incorporated into your life, like yoga, mediation, running. I’m a stressed-out mom. My advice is, take a deep breath and remember it’s all impermanent. There’s so much of it that’s not important. They’ll get their shoes on. They’ll make it to school. Being a perfect mom is impossible. The main thing is just to be slightly human [laughs].
Digest: So, we have to ask, even with your hectic schedule, would you consider coming back to GH?
Hughes: Sure. I could do it. Because it goes at a faster pace — and this may seem crazy — but you can prepare, get your work done and then get back to the family.
Digest: Have you kept in touch with anyone from GH?
Hughes: Only with Kimberly [McCullough, Robin] and Jason [Thompson, Patrick]. I know all about her directing [endeavors in short films]. I’m so proud of her.
Digest: What did you think of your gig on GH: NIGHT SHIFT?
Hughes: That was wonderful. I had a fantastic time doing that.
Digest: Did you hear there are plans to remake Soapdish, in which you were featured?
Hughes: I didn’t hear that. What a great thing!
Digest: Your “soap scene” was so funny.
Hughes: Oh, it’s so ridiculous, isn’t it? ‘[Reciting her clip] You’re all fired!’ and then eating my glove [during the awards ceremony]. I remember doing that like it was yesterday. Sally Field [Nora, BROTHERS & SISTERS] was amazing and Whoopi Goldberg was hilarious. I’m sure it will be a different take on it, what with the way the business has changed since then.
Digest: There are so many dance shows on TV these days. Considering your background in dance, how about a gig as a judge?
Hughes: That would be so fun! I certainly know about dance, having done it for half my life. And I wouldn’t be mean or bitchy. I’d be constructive. I’d love it. I watch them all; SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is my favorite.
Digest: And we see you still check in with fans via your blog on your Official Web site, www.finolahughes.com, a Facebook page and a Twitter page.
Hughes: I try to. If I can get it going and actually get some hits back, maybe I’ll feel like I’m having a conversation with the universe, which I’m all for. I do love to check in when I’ve got something really interesting to talk about.
