All My Children Alum Michael B Jordan Scores First Oscar Nomination!

Comments

Huge congratulations are in order for Michael B. Jordan! The movie star, who played Reggie Porter Montgomery on All My Children from 2003-06, has reached a major career milestone, scoring his first-ever Oscar nomination on Thursday, January 22. Jordan is up for Outstanding Lead Actor for his compelling work in Sinners, which itself made history by becoming the most nominated movie in Academy Awards history with 16 nods, besting the record of 14 previously held by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land.

Going For Gold

Jordan will be vying for the Best Actor award alongside Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent.

The actor had just turned 16 when he first appeared in Pine Valley, succeeding the late Chadwick Boseman, the first actor to play Reggie. (The men later starred together in the 2018 blockbuster Black Panther; Boseman passed away from colon cancer in 2020.) During Jordan’s run as Reggie, the character was romantically linked to Danielle Frye (Tanisha Lynn) and Joni Stafford (Amanda Seyfried) and was adopted by Jackson Montgomery (Walt Willey), giving him a mega-famous stepmother in Erica Kane (Susan Lucci).

After leaving AMC, Jordan went on to appear in the acclaimed prime-time series Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, but his career trajectory changed forever via his mesmerizing performance in the 2013 independent film Fruitvale Station, his first collaboration with Sinners director Ryan Coogler. With his star power on the rise, Jordan cemented his status as one of the actors of his generation with his leading roles in the Creed franchise (he also directed the third installment) and Black Panther.

With his Lead Actor nod, Jordan becomes the third AMC graduate to receive an Academy Award nomination. The first was Melissa Leo, who portrayed Cliff’s (Peter Bergman) conniving sister, from 1984-85. Leo was nominated in 2009 for Best Actress for her work in Frozen River, then received a second nomination and won in 2011 as Outstanding Supporting Actress for The Fighter. Then, in 2021, Amanda Seyfried received a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Marion Davies in Mank.

The 98th Annual Academy Awards will air on ABC and stream on Hulu on Sunday, March 15.
