10 Years of GH's Valentin Cassadine in Photos

General Hospital introduced Valentin Cassadine on July 8, 2016 as a mystery man shrouded in darkness, spying on Jason and Sam on Cassadine Island. Over the past 10 years, portrayer James Patrick Stuart has become a fan favorite as the cunning, witty, frequently romantic, always complex character. “It went by in the blink of an eye,” the actor marveled to Soap Opera Digest of the milestone anniversary. Using an assumed name — Theo Hart — Valentin was first seen on Cassadine Island in Greece. His first dealings with the Port Charles residents who had traveled there were far from friendly: he held Ava, Dante, Nikolas, Jason (later revealed to be Drew), Kevin, Lulu and Sam hostage, and after forcing Nikolas to sign over the Cassadine fortune to him, he shot Nik in the chest, leaving him presumed dead.

Arriving in Port Charles, Valentin reunited with his secret daughter by Lulu, Charlotte (then-Scarlett Fernandez) and swept Nina (then-Michelle Stafford) off her feet.

Valentin shared a history with Anna from their early days in the WSB — and his unresolved feelings for her made him easy prey to be duped by her twin, Alex (both Finola Hughes), in 2017.

In 2018, Valentin was haunted by the sins of his past; the reveal that he had delivered baby Henrik Faison, aka Peter August (Wes Ramsey), to Cesar Faison cost him Nina's love.

Just as Valentin thought he'd secured his second shot at happily-ever-after with Nina (Cynthia Watros), their 2019 wedding came crashing down when Lulu exposed that Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) was not really Nina's long-lost daughter. Valentin was soon busted for having orchestrated the charade.

On New Year's Eve 2019, Valentin took out his frustration on Ava (Maura West) when she refused to hand over the codicil to Helena Cassadine's will by tossing her off the Wyndemere parapet. She survived courtesy of a back-from-the-dead Nikolas.

Valentin drowned his sorrows and received a ghostly visit from Helena (Constance Towers) in 2020 when he discovered that he was not a Cassadine by blood — Mikkos was not his father. Not only that, but Helena, who he despised, was his mother.

Valentin's understanding of his family tree evolved again when, in 2021, he learned that Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy), Mikkos' brother, was his biological father. Equally as devastating, Valentin learned that one-night stand Brook Lynn had lied to him, and he was not the father of little Bailey.

Anna and Valentin finally became lovers in 2022 while working together to take down the diabolical Victor.

Valentin and Anna's relationship was irrevocably shaken in 2023 when Valentin concealed from his lady love that a troubled Charlotte was stalking her, culminating in Anna inadvertently shooting the teen.

In 2024, Anna got proof of Valentin's illegal dealings with the Pikeman Group. Though they were no longer a couple, she let Valentin get a head start on fleeing Port Charles as the FBI closed in on him.

After many months on the run, Valentin was shipped overseas to Steinmauer Maximum Security Prison in 2025. At the PCPD, he said a painful good-bye to Charlotte as Brennan (Chris McKenna) and Lulu (Alexa Havins) looked on.

In 2025, Valentin had a surprise visitor in Steinmauer: a disguised Carly (Laura Wright), who proposed they team up to take down Brennan. Valentin accepted, and he ultimately escaped during a prison transfer and took refuge in Carly's attic.
