In 1990, Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) and Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) wed on General Hospital. Lucy had been Alan's mistress, and his wife, Monica, divorced him over the affair. To avoid bringing further scandal to the Quartermaines, Alan felt he had no choice but to make his relationship with Lucy official. Herring recalled to Soap Opera Digest in 2014, "That wedding was the most fun. In the scene where the box [containing Lucy's red dress] showed up, it was so funny because the crew hadn't realized we had gotten a red dress because they didn't read the script or know the story. So, it was a scripted gaffe, and when we were rehearsing, we were going along and I pulled the dress out of the box, and you could hear actual gasps from the crew because they thought it was a mistake. They didn't know we were playing it that way, that Lucy got the red dress. It was brilliant that we actually fooled them into having a response. And everyone did gasp during taping when I came out with the red hat and dress on."

In 1993 on As the World Turns, Emily Stewart (Kelley Menighan) and Royce Keller (Terry Lester) enjoyed some romance on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. The scenes were shot on location. Emily fell hard for the dashing architect, but their storybook relationship crumbled when he became abusive. Eventually, it was revealed that Royce suffered from multiple personality disorder.

Braun had previously appeared on the show in the role of Ava Vitali, which earned her a 2008 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
