In 1988, General Hospital’s Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) slept with tennis pro “Ward”, unaware that he was really her nephew-by-marriage, Ned Ashton (Kurt Robin McKinney). Monica was aghast when she realized his true identity ... but her reaction paled in comparison to the rest of the family when they found out! Ned's sexual history with Monica became a particularly challenging fact to contend with when he took up with Dawn Winthrop, who just so happened to be Monica's surprise daughter, who she had given up for adoption years prior.

In 1999, Ridge Forrester (Ronn Moss) and Taylor Forrester (Hunter Tylo) welcomed their twin daughters, Phoebe and Steffy, on Bold and Beautiful. While pregnant, Taylor had contracted tuberculosis and was quarantined. She refused medication for fear it could harm the babies. When she went into labor, Taylor began losing a significant amount of blood. After the first baby was born safely, Taylor slipped in and out of consciousness while trying to deliver the second tot. Finally, the little girl was born and once both children were deemed healthy, Taylor flatlined, but she came to and pulled through, much to Ridge's joy.
