Five Things That Happened On May 2 In Soap History

In 1990, divorced duo Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) and Adrienne Johnson Kiriakis (Judi Evans) got engaged again on Days of Our Lives. They tied the knot the following month and remained married for many years before dissolving their union ... but in time, they found themselves walking down the aisle yet again (although their third ceremony was an off-camera elopement in 2011). After another divorce, they wed for the fourth time in 2019 in a double ceremony with Jack and Jennifer Deveraux before Adrienne was tragically killed in a car accident.

In 2001, Tamara Braun made her daytime debut as Carly Roberts Corinthos on General Hospital, succeeding the role's originator, Sarah Brown. Recalling her audition for GH in a 2013 interview with Soap Opera Digest, Braun shared, “I went into hair and makeup, and as I was walking in, the makeup people were reading off names and I heard someone say, ‘Oh, Tamara Braun. That sounds like a soap name.’ And I walked in and said, ‘I’m Tamara Braun!’ Maurice [Benard] and I went over the scene. He was looking in my eyes and he stopped and said, ‘Good. I love the eye contact and everything you’re giving to me. Do exactly what you’re doing. Keep that eye contact; it’s great.’ And I said thanks. He was really nice and very supportive.”

In 2019, Abe Carver (James Reynolds) and Valerie Grant (Vanessa Williams) called it quits on their rekindled relationship on Days of Our Lives. At that point, the duo had been long-distance for some time. Valerie had paid a brief visit to Salem to see her beau, and learned that he had shared a kiss with Sheila Watkins. However, Valerie took that in stride. As she explained to her son, Eli, when she informed him of her split from Abe, "As much as Abe and I loved each other, the distance and the separate lives — it was just too much."

In 2023 on General Hospital, Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy, r.) forced Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) to inject Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) with an experimental antidote to a deadly pathogen in the lab at the Cassadine compound in Greenland. "All right, Doctor," crowed Victor to a horrified Liesl. "Let's go make some history."

In 2024, Young and Restless aired a standalone episode centered around Peter Bergman's Jack Abbott and Melody Thomas Scott's Nikki Newman. Nikki had gone on a bender in a suite at the GCAC and Jack, Nikki's ex-husband and AA sponsor, beseeched her to sober up. His pleas fell on deaf ears as Nikki insisted she didn't want to stop drinking. “You really think you can fix me?” she taunted. When Nikki spat that Jack should either join the party or leave, Jack shocked her by saying, "Fine, I will," and pouring himself a glass of alcohol. “Let’s see if Ol’ Smilin’ Jack can have fun again," he said. Next, Jack began popping pills and at the end of the hour, he passed out as Nikki screamed.
