Five Things That Happened On March 6 In Soap History

In 1979, Don Craig (Jed Allan) and Marlena Evans's (Deidre Hall) wedding concluded on Days of Our Lives. It had been a long road to the altar for the lovebirds, whose attempt to marry the previous year had been thwarted when his troubled daughter, Donna Craig, threatened to jump off a building. After saying, "I do," Don and Marlena headed to California for their honeymoon and paid a visit to her twin sister, Samantha.

In 1979, One Life to Live’s Karen Wolek (Judith Light) broke down on the witness stand at Viki’s trial for the murder of Marco Dane (who wasn't really dead, but that's another story altogether), Karen's pimp. Karen had been leading a double life as a sex worker, concealing her illicit activities from her unsuspecting husband, Dr. Larry Wolek. In court, prosecutor Herb Callison hammered away at Karen while she was under oath, forcing her go to public with all of her sordid secrets. Her testimony exonerated Viki — at the cost of her marriage to Larry. Light's tour de force is still considered to be one of the finest performances by an actor in daytime television history.

In 1979, Guiding Light's Roger Thorpe (Michael Zaslow) raped his wife, Holly Norris Thorpe (Maureen Garrett). In a landmark moment for daytime, Holly sued her husband for marital rape, the first time that issue was explored in the genre. Ross Marler defended Roger at the trial, and just when it looked like Roger was going to successfully beat the charges, Rita Stapleton Bauer, who Roger had raped the previous year, came forward to testify about the attack. Roger was found guilty.

In 2013 on Young and Restless, Michael and Lauren Baldwin (Christian J. LeBlanc and Tracey E. Bregman) met up to discuss the state of their fractured marriage. Michael was effusive in his desire to patch things up with his wife and told her that he had resigned as district attorney, recognizing that his job had become an issue in his family life. Lauren told Michael that she still wasn't ready to return home, but did not tell him about something that was weighing heavy on her mind: She had slept with Carmine Basco the night before!

In 2020 on General Hospital, Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati, l., with Kelly Thiebaud as Britt Westbourne) was arrested by the WSB after being framed by Peter August for Drew Cain's presumed death in a plane crash, and the attempted murders of Franco Baldwin and Andre Maddox. Anna was practically giddy, confident that Obrecht would finally pay for her crimes and that Peter's name would finally be cleared. Of course, she was in for quite a rude awakening when Peter's guilt was ultimately proven.
