Five Things That Happened On February 12 In Soap History

In 1987, Joy Garrett (who had previously appeared on Young and Restless as Boobsie Caswell) made her first Days of Our Lives appearance as Jo Johnson, mother to Adrienne, Jack and Steve. In 1989, she took home the Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her work on the show. The actress made her final appearance on the show in 1993, and passed away that same year.

In 1992, Guiding Light's Holly Lindsey (Maureen Garrett) was in grave danger from her murderous fiancé, Dr. Daniel St. John (David Bishins), who was holding her hostage at the Bauer cabin and tried to force her, at gunpoint, into saying, "I do." In the end, Holly's ex-husband, Roger Thorpe, and her former fiancé, Ross Marler, intervened in time to rescue Holly, and Roger shot and killed Daniel in the ensuing melee.

In 2010, fresh off her Daytime Emmy-winning run as Dinah Marler on Guiding Light, Gina Tognoni (r., pictured with on-screen cousin Kassie DePaiva, Blair) returned to One Life to Live as Kelly Cramer after an eight-year absence. She had created the role in 1995, and reflected on her early days on the show as a guest on Soap Opera Digest's podcast, Dishing With Digest, in 2019, saying, "I was really, really green. I was terrified most every day.... I felt that I was in the right place at the right time. I stayed there for about, I wanna say, almost seven years. It was just such a home. It was one of the best ways to learn. I had an incredible learning ground, and I got paid for it, which was extra cool."

In 2010 on General Hospital, Michael Corinthos (Drew Garrett, l.) went to the police station to confess to Mac Scorpio (John J. York) that he had killed Claudia Zacchara. Michael began to tell Mac the whole gory story and was taken aback when Mac made it clear that he didn't believe Michael (who was telling the truth); instead, Mac was convinced that Michael was covering for his dad, Sonny Corinthos. "I understand your instinct to protect your father," Mac admonished him. "It's very brave, Michael — and foolish."

In 2021, Days of our Lives's Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) and Ciara Brady Weston (Victoria Konefal), who was presumed dead at the time, reunited in a shared dream. Ciara, who was being held captive by the deranged Rhodes, and Ben had both been reading Romeo and Juliet, which appeared to link them psychically. After waking up with the ability to recite a passage from the Shakespearean classic, Ben told Claire he was convinced that he had actually connected with Ciara and that his wife must be alive.
