In 1984, Beverlee McKinsey debuted on Guiding Light as Alexandra Spaulding. The actress was already a daytime legend, having played Iris Wheeler on Another World from 1972-80 and on Texas from 1980-81. McKinsey played Alexandra until 1992, and the role was subsequently recast with Marj Dusay. In 2016, Vincent Irizarry, who played Alexandra's long-lost son, Brandon "Lujack" Lovonaczek, recalled to Soap Opera Digest, "About four months after I’d been on the show, they hired Beverlee to play my mother. I had never watched soaps. I didn’t know Beverlee. Everybody was saying, ‘Beverlee McKinsey’s coming on to be your mother!’ I said, ‘Okay, great,’ and people said, ‘No, you don’t understand. She’s a big deal.’ The first day Beverlee came to work, we hit it off immediately. I loved her."

In 1994, Roman Brady's (Wayne Northrop) world was turned upside down on Days of Our Lives when he learned that he was not the biological father of wife Marlena's baby girl, Belle — John Black was! The truth was revealed at Belle's christening, when malicious Stefano DiMera showed Roman a page from his daughter Sami Brady's (Alison Sweeney) diary that revealed not only that John and Marlena had had an affair, but that he was Belle's dad; Sami had tampered with the paternity test Marlena had ordered when she wasn't sure which man had impregnated her.

In 2006, Tony Jones died on General Hospital, a victim of the encephalitis outbreak in Port Charles. Tony's demise signaled the end of Brad Maule's run on the show, which kicked off in 1984. In 2013, the actor admitted to Soap Opera Digest that being killed off was painful "because the people you work with become your second family. It was just awful. The day of, I didn't want to go to work. You give yourself these speeches about, 'You do the best work you can do,' but my heart was breaking. It was a day best to be forgotten. But I didn't forget it. I lived [laughs]."

In 2010, Constance Towers returned to General Hospital as Helena Cassadine after a months-long absence. Nikolas (Tyler Christopher) found his grandmother fixing a cup of tea in the Wyndemere parlor. Helena purred that she'd been apprised of the strife between Lucky and Nikolas (owing to Nikolas's affair with Elizabeth) and claimed she wanted to help. What she ended up doing hardly helped matters: She tampered with the results of a pregnant Elizabeth's paternity test to name Nikolas as the father of Aiden (who was actually Lucky's biological child).

In 2020, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) woke up in bed with Summer Newman (Hunter King) on Young and Restless after they had slept together in Kyle's hotel room. Kyle was married to Lola Rosales at the time, but the pair had come to the realization that their marriage was over. Kyle assured Summer that he was happy about their renewed intimacy. "I was worried that you were gonna wake up feeling guilty, which would have definitely ruined things," Summer admitted. However, the pair agreed that they should keep their reunion under wraps for now, lest Summer be accused of destroying Kyle's marriage.
