The police came to search the ranch for Cassie’s clothes. Victor and Nikki felt Sharon should cooperate with the authorities. Just then, Nick came home and went ballistic when Sharon told him the police were just there. “They are not getting Cassie’s clothes!” he steamed. Phyllis and Jack showed up at court, waiting for the trial to begin. “I have never started a trial with a thinner defense,” sighed Christine. Daniel called a teary Lily — who was soaking up rays by the pool. Later, Lily showed up in court wearing one of Dru’s hats. Phyllis spotted her and told her to beat it. “You think I want Lizzie Borden cheering him on here?” Phyllis snapped. Lily made eye contact with Daniel and left, just as Nick and Sharon entered the courtroom. The trial commenced.

Michael went to the institution to see Sheila, unaware that the real Sheila was with Scott in Toronto having more flashbacks and getting tutored. Sheila came up with a story idea for their creative writing: about a woman who’s head over heels for a doctor but there’s another conniving woman who tricks the doctor into sleeping with her, and there was a baby switch. Sound familiar?! Lauren tried to hack into Michael’s computer to see where he went, but should didn’t know his password. That’s when she saw articles about Sheila on his desk. Back at the institution, Michael demanded to see Sheila.

EOE (end of episode!), Michael came face-to-face with the faux Sheila. Let the games begin! Thursday, August 11, 2005
Daniel freaked out on the morning of the start of his trial, wondering how a loss might affect his already high-strung mom, Phyllis. “I don’t think she could handle it,” he confided to Christine. Sure enough, a mightily worried Phyllis recalled to Jack the last time she was in court over Daniel, when she lost custody of him. Jack urged her to remain strong and composed for Daniel’s sake. Phyllis complied, giving Daniel a strong pep talk before they left the jailhouse for the courthouse.

Nicholas couldn’t wait for the trial to begin; Sharon was more anxious. She tried to convince Nick to hand Cassie’s clothes over to Christine, to prove Cassie was blameless once and for all. Nick refused. Sharon asked Nick if he destroyed the clothes; he didn’t respond directly, saying “They were mine, to do with what I pleased.” His??!?! The birth mother subtly reminded her husband (the adoptive father, thank you very much) that she might have wanted a say in that decision, but Nick claimed the clothes were just a reminder of Cassie’s pain and should have been discarded anyway. After he left, Det. Weber arrived with a warrant to search the property for the clothes. Sharon said she didn’t know where they were. The police searched the home, but found nothing.

Gloria met Lauren at the GCAC Poolside Cafe. Lauren said she was calling off the big wedding, which prompted Glo’s eyes to bug out of her head. Lauren insisted she didn’t need all the hooplah, but Gloria didn’t believe her for a second. Lauren remained firm — and when that didn’t work, she got testy.

Eric Forrester (hi, John McCook) paid Michael a visit in Genoa City, at Michael’s request. Eric thought he was there to design a wedding dress for Lauren, but Michael admitted that wasn’t it — he needed to know all about Eric’s ex-wife, one Sheila Carter. Eric was reluctant, but Michael insisted he needed to free Lauren from the ghost of Sheila before they could have a happy life together. After a commercial break, Michael was filled in on Sheila’s antics in Los Angeles with Lauren and the Forresters and realized why Lauren has lived so cautiously all this time. Eric claimed that Sheila was recaptured last year (!) and incarcerated near Palm Springs, and that he keeps in regular touch with the warden there to make sure she’s still in custody (guess Sheila paid off that warden at some point). With the crazy woman locked up, Eric didn’t see why Michael and Lauren couldn’t relax and marry in the open (after all these years, you would think he’d know better than to underestimate the crazy woman).

Scott called Michael to congratulate him on his engagement to his mom, then started asking questions about what’s going on with her lately. Michael was cagey, even though he was busting to tell all. When he hung up, Michael booked a plane ticket to Palm Springs.Wednesday, August 10, 2005
Christine dreaded the start of the trial and was frantic to find the clothes. She believed that Sharon didn’t know where the clothes were. Daniel revealed to Phyllis that Cassie’s clothes are the key and she wondered where they are. Nick and Sharon started to make love, but then Phyllis barged in and made a scene. “Why haven’t you turned over Cassie’s clothes to Christine?” she cried. Sharon swore they didn’t have the clothes, so Phyllis realized Nick had them and they got in each other’s face.

Devon and Lily went for a swim at the GCAC. They chatted about Daniel, the trial and his crackhead mother.

Mac revealed to Kevin that J.T. isn’t the father of Brittany’s baby after all. Kevin said there’s no excuse for what J.T. did. Kevin admitted that spending time with Mac makes him wish he had a girlfriend (awww). So Mac set him up with some girls in the hot tub.

Angelo, who snatched the baby and was holding a gun to the poor thing’s fuzzy head, faced off with Bobby at the hospital. After a dramatic scuffle, the baby was rescued and Angelo was apprehended. Victoria was impressed by J.T. the PI. Bobby broke it to Brittany that he’s going into the Witness Protection Program and that she can join him later. Bobby asked J.T. to keep an eye on her while he was gone. Brittany slipped a ring on Bobby’s finger and said goodbye. Sniff. Sniff.Tuesday, August 9, 2005
Christine demanded that Sharon hand over Cassie’s clothes. The counselor ripped into Sharon, attempting to guilt her into doing the right thing. Sharon said Cassie was wearing flat green sandals, which didn’t gel with the heel found in the accelerator. After Chris left, Nick came home and ignored Sharon’s desire to talk about the trial, saying he had a special evening planned.

Gloria hit John up for a lavish wedding present for Michael and Lauren. “Order all the wonderful flowers you like,” John approved, at which point Gloria asked for a checking account. John pointed out that Glo has full access to their joint checking account. Glo wondered if John didn’t yet trust her. After a few seconds of pouting, John relented and promised to set up a separate account for her with his banker. Don’t tell Tom…

Ashley returned the necklace to Tom. He suggested she give it to her stepmother instead. Ash called Tom on his constant interest in Gloria. Tom later went to see Glo.

Lauren lamented to Paul that she has to continue living in secret, for fear of Sheila popping up again. She thought about having the wedding in Hawaii, and Paul suggested checking into a hotel under assumed names, just in case. Meanwhile, Michael thanked Brad for clueing him in about Sheila. Brad suggested Michael next call on Sheila’s ex-husband, Eric Forrester, for more information.

Victor brought Nikki to the hospital for followup. She told Bobby she wanted to throw a baby shower for the baby when Brittany was up for it. Bobby praised Nikki for being a true friend to him, then said he was slated to join the Witness Protection Program after Vinnie’s trial. The two shared a tearful goodbye. Angelo donned a doctor’s getup to move more freely around the hospital. EOE (end of epsiode!), Bobby spotted Ang in a hallway, holding baby Joshua.Monday, August 8, 2005
She’s baaaaack! Sheila tried to tell Scott she’s someone he can trust (run for your life, kid!). They talked about Lauren and Michael’s plans to marry and his childhood. When she started to knock Genoa City, Scott asked “Brenda” (whom he’s tutoring!) if she has ever been there. She covered and said no. Back in GC, Michael filled in Kevin (and new viewers) about Sheila’s litany of crimes. Cut to another infamous farmhouse flashback.

J.T. begged Mac to take him back. She had trouble trusting him again. “I wish you didn’t feel you had to be so darn noble,” she moaned.

Sharon was convinced Cassie protected Nikki when she was kidnapped. “What the hell were you thinking?” Nick asked his bruised-up mama. At the hospital, Paul questioned the nurse who was on duty the night Cassie died. Enter Angelo, who quickly made himself scarce.

Christine explained to Phyllis that Cassie’s fingerprints were on the steering wheel. “Think positive thoughts,” suggested the lawyer. Nick still refused to entertain the theory that Cassie was driving the car, but he did admit to a weepy Sharon that he needs her. Nick left to plan a surprise for Sharon and ran into Phyllis, who promised the truth WILL come out in the courtroom. Meanwhile, Christine arrived at the ranch to ask Sharon for her help.

Brad had a business proposal for Victor.
