Nick confided in Sharon about his doubts that Victor will rest until both his children were working at Newman, even if Victoria announced that she wanted no part of that. He told his wife that she didn’t understand what running NE meant to him. “I want to prove that I’m not second best, not to my father, but to myself as well”….
At the Tack house, Victor tried to find out what Jack’s plans were for Victoria. Phyllis told him that Jill was the new CEO. He figured out that Jack offered the position to his daughter because since she wanted to return to the business world, but not at Newman, working at Jabot would challenge her and give her the perfect opportunity to go “head to head with Nicholas”….
Nikki stopped by after Victor left; Phyllis left and Victoria came home. Victoria assured her mother that she was going to stick around for a while because “business is in her blood”. Nikki told Victoria that in their family, it mattered where she worked. But Vicky said that she and Nick don’t share their father’s wishes, but if she worked at Jabot she’d be working with her mom. Nikki shot down that idea, telling her that Victor would view her working at Jabot as a betrayal and that Jack was only “using you as a pawn in his never ending war with your father.” Vicky insisted that “Newman Enterprises is Nicholas’ turf now. One day soon he will regret the day that he tried to shut me out of my family’s company”….
J.T. bumped into Mackenzie and accidentally poured scalding hot tea on her leg. He put a cold towel on the burn, but insisted on taking her to the hospital, where Olivia treated her second degree burn. Back at the loft, Mac confessed that he meant a lot more to her than just a roommate, and as they were leaning in for a kiss, there was a knock on the door (damn that timing!). J.T.’s date Robin showed up. He admitted to her that he had forgotten about their night out because of all the hospital drama but they headed out anyway, even though he and Mac had just been making plans to stay home together….
Jack came into the lab at Jabot and Ashley attacked him for not consulting her about making Jill CEO. “This is a family business, Jack. That means the big decisions need to be made by ‘the family’.” Jack told her he may have hired the wrong person; she assumed he meant Brad but he confessed that he wanted Victoria in the position. Ashley said, “Victoria is playing you. She’s using you to thumb her nose at both of them [Victor and Nick].” Jack insisted that he could offer her something no one else could: a job out of the Newman shadow….
Jill interrupted and told them she called a meeting of the Chancellor board to make her CEO position official. Jack was furious that she stepped over his head, but Jill rushed out to make an appointment before he could scold her further….
Later, Jack showed up at the Tack House and demanded to know whether Victoria was “playing straight with me or is this some kind of game?”… Kevin met with his therapist about saving John, and his feelings for Mac. She told him he has come a long way since they first started working together. Kevin hoped that “nothing will ever take me back to that dark side.” When he left the therapist’s office, he called Mac to ask her over to Michael’s for dinner. Mac gave in and they agreed to meet at Baldwin’s apartment. As Kevin walked away, Terrible Tom lowered his newspaper, and practically twirling his moustache said, “hmmm dinner at Michael’s? Well, what do you know?”… Victor met with Katherine and confirmed that Jill was named CEO of Jabot. Then he filled her in on Jack approaching Vicky to run Jabot….
Over at Walnut Grove, Cassie overheard Daniel talking about a party with a friend. When she greeted him, he told her “you’re wearing less makeup. It looks better.” Cassie told her friend about the party, and hoped to get out of being grounded….
Sierra ran into Daniel while looking for Lily. Disturbed by him blowing her off, she found Lily and asked what was going on. Lily informed her about Daniel ending things with them. Daniel saw Lily walk away and punched either a locker or a wall. … Back at the Newman Ranch, Sharon offered to give Cassie some cosmetic pointers. Cassie, obviously thinking about Daniel, agreed to take advantage of her mom’s expertise. Sharon delighted over their bonding, telling her daughter that a natural look was better, but that she should save heavier makeup for special occasions. Cassie recalled Daniel’s compliment and smiled at herself in the mirror. She asked Sharon if she could be ungrounded because her grades were doing well and she wanted to get involved in more school activities. Sharon said she’d talk to Nick.

Dru tracked Nick down to propose her fantastic new idea for the cosmetics division. She presented a line of fragrances called “Seasons”, one for each season. Nick slightly cluelessly asked if “women would be willing to wear more than one fragrance?” Before Dru got too carried away, Nick told her he loved the idea for because, “its bold, its innovative”. He told her to keep the proposal quiet and that maybe she’d be able to show Victoria a thing or two….
Jill told Jack he should stay home to look after his dad, and questioned him about the rumor that Victoria is in town. Jack ended the call when Ashley came home. She asked him about his CEO choice, but before he could answer, Gloria came downstairs and announced she was, “off to see my husband.” “Oh no you’re not, no you’re not,” insisted Ashley. Ash angered Gloria when she told her about throwing Kevin out of the hospital the night before. Gloria was determined to see John, but “before the fur starts flying,” Jack suggested Ash call John and ask what he wanted. John refused to see Gloria. When she left, Jack tried to convince his sister that he saw another side of Gloria the night before, and that she did have sincere feelings for John, not just for his money. As Jack was leaving, Brad (who wouldn’t speak to him) and Abby showed up. While Abby made her grandpa a card upstairs, Brad filled his ex in on leaving Jabot when Jack appointed Jill CEO. They lamented how quickly things change. Brad assured Ash that even though they no longer work together, they’d get through this time. Abby came back downstairs, and asked if grandpa was really going to be ok. Ashley, looking at Brad, said “we all are.” … Michael told Kevin he was getting “damn tired of you shooting yourself in the foot again and again.” Kevin retorted that if he doesn’t stand up for his mom, no one will respect their family. Mikey recommended that Kev find something else to occupy himself. Kevin considered that for a moment and left their apartment. He showed up at the loft, interrupting a flirtatious morning between J.T. and Mac. The roomies had been dancing around their kiss the night before, and were about to lock lips again when Kevin knocked on the door. J.T. threatened him, but left after Mac defended her friend. Kevin insisted on making Mac breakfast despite her busy studying schedule. Over a supposedly delicious oatmeal, Kevin told her that she deserved having a guy who would wait on her hand and foot. She brought up Billy and said she didn’t think she’d ever have those feelings again. Hoping to dissuade her of that, Kevin leaned over and planted a kiss on her. She awkwardly pulled back, “I really should get back to studying”. He got up to clean, with an excited smile on his face, while Mac was unable to look at him….
At the Tack House, Phyllis found Victoria unpacking and wondering what she was doing. Vicky filled her in on the tense Newman dinner and ranted about her brother “icing her out of the family business.” Phyllis revealed her agenda by blatantly telling her that she’d “rather work for her than ‘that moron’. Poor Drucilla! Phyllis then deduced that Vicky is considering Jack’s offer just as he showed up for a kiss and was stunned to find Victoria there. Jack was pissed that Phyllis knew Vicky was back in town and didn’t tell him. He figured out that she must have been in town when Phyllis encouraged him to hire Brad or Jill as CEO. “I guess getting Drucilla out of your hair is more important, huh?”, he chided….
Back at the Baldwins, Gloria doubted having a future without John. Michael insisted that it was “time to face facts” and that “before she knows it, she’ll be dating again.” He told her she needs perspective, even though obviously Gloria just wanted to make her marriage work, and dragged her out of the apartment to “the place where fun lives.” … Victoria surprised Ash at her lab. They discussed their past relationship. Victoria apologized for being so hard on Ashley over the years and said she owed her former stepmom a lot for helping her through rough patches. Vicky asked if Ashley ever thought about pursuing her own dreams, like stepping in as CEO of Jabot, now that Jack was running Chancellor Industries. Just then Jill came in to throw her weight around. “No, I’m the CEO of Jabot and its extremely inappropriate for a Newman to be in our research lab, so please get out.”

YOUNG AND RESTLESS was pre-empted on the East Coast today by news coverage of the election of the pope. A classic episode aired on the West Coast. Check back tomorrow for a recap.

Nikki and Victor discussed the family dinner. Nikki thought it went well, but Victor told her that he could have cut the tension between their kids with a knife. Sharon found Nick sitting outside. He admitted that things didn’t go well with Victoria at dinner, and that his sister left when things got ugly. He told Sharon that “there’s no way we [he and Victoria] could ever co-exist at Newman” and that he needs to prove his manhood by handling Newman Enterprises well. Back inside, Victor wondered if Victoria would want her old job back. Nick tried to assert his place, insisting that they waited long enough to fill her old position, and that he was not going to hire Victoria, no matter what Victor tried to make him do….
Michael tried to convince Kevin, yet again, that he shouldn’t feel guilty and counseled him to stay away from the hospital. Kevin agreed, but the second Mikey left the room to change out of his suit, Kevin looked around creepily, grabbed his coat and snuck out….
Victoria showed up at the Abbott house to ask Jack if he filled the CEO position yet. Before he had a chance to answer, his “favorite CEO”, Jill called. Jack blew her off to talk to Vicky, who deduced that he offered the position to someone else….
Jill recalled Katherine giving her permission to be Jack’s CEO and then called Jack back; he promised to call her tomorrow and hung up on her. Jack insisted Victoria be patient, but she told him that her time in Genoa City is not unlimited so he needed to make a decision soon. Jack explained that she would have to answer to him, hypothetically, of course if there was a job….
Michael showed up at the Abbotts and pointed out to Jack that, “we’s kin now.” Victoria and Michael flirted before she left. Michael asked Jack to cut Kevin some slack, warning his stepbrother that Kevin wanted to try and talk to John about Gloria. Jack wouldn’t make a commitment and Michael left….
Drucilla came home, ecstatic that she came up with a fabulous idea to wow Nick. She and Neil chatted about Lily, and Dru learned that they were on the same page about Daniel seeing Lily. Neil filled her in on Kevin’s visit; he agreed with her that Kev would never have gone to bat for Daniel if they weren’t close, and therefore Lily should be kept away from Daniel….
At the hospital, Ashley told John that “its hard for all of us to accept, Daddy, but Kevin Fisher was a hero tonight”, by saving his life. John was shocked. They talked for a while, and John admitted that it would be nice to have the companionship of a wife while he recovers so he won’t be a burden on his family. Ash insisted that all he needs is herself and Jack. Kevin showed up at the hospital, but John refused to see him. Ashley threatened to call security on him so Kev pretended to leave, but really just ducked behind the corner and waited until Ash was busy with paperwork so he could get into John’s room. John woke up in pain, and noticed Kevin standing over him looking decidedly scary. John didn’t want to listen to what Kev had to say, although he admitted that he was grateful for being rescued, but that didn’t mean that he could ever forget what his stepson did in the past. Kevin tried to plead with him, “Don’t hate my mother because of me. That’s wrong.” A nurse and Ashley entered the room and tried to get Kevin to leave, eventually calling in security who pulled him out of the room kicking and screaming that Ashley was poisoning her dad’s mind against Gloria….
Meanwhile back at the, um, Newman ranch, Victoria came home and told Nick that though Victor wanted them to “play nice in the sandbox”, she insisted that “life is too short to spend it arguing with my family” and that she wants no part of Newman. Everyone had a parting shot for Victor and left The Moustache alone with his thoughts of manipulating his family into working together at Newman.
