Wedded Bliss

Comments

In this press conference, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL’s Brian Gaskill (Oscar) opens up on his surprise wedding to singer/actress Tonya Watts and how newlywed life is treating them so far.Soap Opera Weekly: Tell us about your wedding and engagement.
Gaskill: I got married on Dec. 20 in Vegas. It was about a week and a half before Britney (Spears). It was not a totally last-minute decision. I guess at the time I got engaged, which was only a month before I got married — it feels ridiculous a little bit [to announce it in the press]. Unless you have a personal publicist down your neck about it, it feels like, “Why would I call people and tell them I got engaged?” To some degree, I just wanted to hold on to it and keep it my own for as long as possible.Weekly: How long have you known Tonya?
Gaskill: Since September. I met her on the set here [at B&B]. She was working as an extra, but she hasn’t worked as an extra since because it isn’t necessary anymore. She has a big Coors commercial. She works in commercials and has a budding music career.
This day, in particular, I had this big speech in front of all these actors I hadn’t even met yet. It was all about Ozzz and I was really focused and excited about the role at the time. Some people came up to me and said, “This girl’s kind of into you.” I was like, “I don’t want to hear about it. I don’t want to know about it. I’m focused.” When I first saw her, she was this blonde girl dressed for THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. I just figured she was some Beverly Hills actress wannabe. She was cute, but then I found out she was a singer/songwriter, she’s from Alabama, she has the strongest accent in the world.Weekly: This happened very fast.
Gaskill: For both of us, it was a strange thing. I’m going to try to avoid getting too gushy about it but it was a hard year for both of us, for her especially. It was kind of a miracle to end the year. I’ve gone through my life procrastinating and, to some degree, I was thinking I was pushing things off too much. But when I met her, it was the right time in my life, and it was just, “This is what I want, this is what I’m ready for and I’m going to do it.” In my head and spiritually, I was already married to her after three weeks, so the process after that of getting engaged and married was more like, “Let’s just make it official, because I already feel that way.” It was weird. It was complicated.
