What was the last dish you cooked? “Red beans and rice. That’s a big Monday dish in Louisiana and it means home to me. Monday was laundry day in New Orleans, so your mother would put on a pot of beans with the ham hock from the Sunday meal, then it would cook all day and you’d have this amazing dinner at night.”
What do you do on a rainy day? “Rain is so rare in L.A. that you just want to relax so you can hear it and enjoy it. The sound of rain coming down while I’m writing or reading or napping is the best.”
What is your favorite ice cream flavor? “I’m not picky but I love pralines and cream.”
What’s always in your refrigerator? “Almond milk for my coffee.”
What store could you spend hours in? “A good bookstore when it’s raining and there’s a big, overstuffed couch and coffee — with a cat walking around. Almost like a coffeehouse but with tons of books.”
