The Best And Worst On B&B, DAYS, GH And Y&R The Week Of Feb. 3-7

(From l.) Y&R’s Damian (Jermaine Rivers), DAYS’s Rachel (Roslyn Gentle) and Kristen (Stacy Haiduk), B&B’s Finn (Tanner Novlan) and GH’s Gio (Giovanni Mazza) were all at the center of soapy drama.
The Best
Bold and Beautiful: Finn Blasts Poppy
In the five years that quiet Dr. Finn Finnegan has been on B&B he’s learned that his father cheated on his mother with murderer Sheila Carter, Sheila was his biological mother and his cousin Luna is actually his daughter thanks to a fling he had 20 years ago with his Aunt Poppy.
“You raised a murderer!” Finn yelled at Poppy, incredulous that the criminal who attacked his wife Steffy and locked her in a cage is actually his daughter. He berated his aunt for lying that he wasn’t Luna’s dad which meant the troubled girl was raised with no father. “None of this would have happened if I had been there for her,” rued Finn.
Poppy responded that she lied to protect Finn because he had his whole life ahead of him (and indeed became a doctor with a beautiful wife and family) but he wasn’t having it. She begged him to keep mum, but Finn said her betrayal changes everything: “I have to tell Steffy!”
But will he?
General Hospital: Carly Busts Drew As PC Watches
Any episode that starts with bystander Tracy predicting “This should be interesting” is destined for greatness. So when Carly found a tie she had given Drew nestled in the couch cushions at the Q gatehouse Willow shared with Michael, the mama bear stormed over to the Metro Court to confront her ex.
“Congressman Quartermaine!” boomed Carly as every head in the restaurant spun around. “You left this at Michael’s house while you were having sex with his wife.” Carly rattled off Drew’s transgressions, reminding him that his nephew is fighting for his life while Drew’s sleeping with Willow on property he’d been banned from. She called him sleazy and pathetic and said she was glad Jason beat the hell out of him.
That was too much for Drew, who fired back that her beloved Jason had “knocked up Sasha Corbin, the family cook.” Cue Sasha blasting Drew and storming off as Anna, Felicia, Brook Lynn, Maxie, Lucy, Lulu and Tracy stared open-mouthed at the scene.
It’s unclear what Willow (who Tracy calls “the adulteress in the gatehouse”) will do next, but as usual the Quartermaine Queen called it.
Days of Our Lives: Kristen Finds Ava
It’s not every day that an 8 year-old participates in a kidnapping plot, but Rachel Black is no ordinary kid. She conspired with the Woman in White to lure her father’s girlfriend Ava to Aremid and hold her captive in the hopes that her parents Brady and Kristen would get back together. The plan seemed to be working until Kristen heard something beeping in Rachel’s backpack and went to investigate.
“Why on earth does Rachel have Ava’s phone?” wondered Kristen, who soon put the pieces together and headed for Aremid. She found Ava bound and gagged, unspooling the story that Rachel had called asking Ava to come help her at the Aremid address. “Rachel did this all by herself?” asked Kristen. No, answered Ava. She had help.
Enter the Woman in White. “Mother?” whispered a shocked Kristen.
Young and Restless: The Real Damian Shows Up
It took a while, but the convoluted tale of Amy returning to Genoa City to ask Nate to help her find her estranged son (aka Nate’s half brother via his late father Nathan Hastings) finally made sense when Nate invited Damian over and Amy entered the room.
“This man is not my son!” exclaimed Amy. Nate demanded answers and the imposter admitted his name was Holden and he works for Damian. He said Damian doesn’t have time for random meetings so he sent Holden to check it out after Nate contacted Damian about a job that turned out to to be fake. Amy insisted seeing Damian was “a matter of life and death” because she needs her son to forgive her. Holden argued his boss is stubborn but he’ll see what he can do. A dejected Amy later said it hurts her heart that Damian sent a stranger in his place… such wasted time. Meanwhile, Holden reported back to Damian that Amy isn’t healthy — what does he have to lose by hearing her out?
Just then Nate’s phone rang. “Let’s meet,” said Damian.
The Worst
DAYS: The Rafe/Arnold Fiasco
Thirteen years ago the DiMeras paid a guy named Arnold to get plastic surgery to look like Rafe so he could impersonate Rafe and ruin his marriage to EJ’s ex Sami. Arnold died in prison and that was that — until the doppelgänger returned and EJ put him to work again. EJ locked Rafe in the DiMera basement and ordered Arnold to ruin Rafe’s wedding to Jada (sound familiar?).
“I can’t marry you,” said “Rafe” to Jada at the altar, fake crying that she’s not the woman he thought she was. Enter Shawn with “evidence” against Jada (planted by EJ) for cutting corners on police investigations as commissioner. Jada was immediately taken from her wedding to the police station and placed on leave. Even more preposterous? Paulina then hired the doppelgänger as Salem’s new police commissioner.
Any story predicated on the top cop not being able to tell that a stranger is impersonating her fiancé is going to be an uphill climb, never mind the mayor jumping on board and hiring the dude. Paulina and Jada are smart and Arnold is not so it’s asking too much of viewers. The only person who raised an eyebrow at this silly scenario was Patch, who nailed it: “This has EJ DiMera’s filthy fingerprints all over it.”
GH: The Gio ‘Reveal’
Raise your hand if you were shocked when Lois confided to Martin that Brook Lynn had given up a baby 21 years ago who grew up to be Gio. Anybody? No, because GH dropped so many hints that the Cerullo “cousin” Lois brought with her from Brooklyn was Brook Lynn and Dante’s kid that by the time she shared her secret it was completely anticlimactic.
Questions began last summer when Carly asked Lois about Gio’s background and Lois was curiously cagey. We got another tip in the fall when Ned told Lois she was terrible at keeping secrets and then pointedly said, “Right, Gio?” Lois looked stricken, as she did every time Gio’s late mother was mentioned or Chase gushed about Brook Lynn having her “first” child. Finally mother and daughter discussed Brook Lynn’s long-ago summer fling with Dante and it was even more obvious to viewers that Lois knows where that now-grown child is: Down the hall.
Lois bringing Gio to the Quartermaines to live with his unknowing mother, father, grandfather Ned, grandmother Olivia and great grandmother Tracy is as soapy as it gets, but telegraphing Gio’s identity so many months before the “reveal” robbed this tale of the dramatic punch it could have packed.
