Surprise! You’re My Parent
Now that GUIDING LIGHT’s Olivia has (not-so-happily) reunited with her full-grown daughter Ava, it is a fine time to look back at a few other Springfield residents who discovered one or both parents were conveniently right here in town.
LUJACK
Beth’s beau Lujack learned from Alexandra Spaulding that he was actually Brandon, the son she had with Eric Luvonaczek, then sold. Alex welcomed him with open arms and open wallet, but he loathed the privileged life. Beth finally pushed him to connect with Alex. Years after Lujack died in a tragic boat explosion, Alex met another surprise son (and Lujack’s twin), Nick, who gave her more years of maternal bliss.
HART
Hard-working Hart lived on a Springfield farm with his grandfather until his beloved elder passed away and the farm went to a mysterious new owner. Trying to trace his past, Hart searched through his deceased mother’s letters and gleaned his dad’s identity: Roger Thorpe. Through his job at the Spaulding stables Hart confronted his pop and eventually learned that Roger had tricked his grandfather out of his farm. So he cut himself off from the cruel conniver.
DYLAN
A car accident reunited Dylan with his parents, when Billy and Reva’s car hit him while they searched for him and Samantha, who were suspects in the kidnapping of Dylan’s daughter, Susan. Reva quickly spotted a birthmark on Dylan’s knee and realized he was the baby she had with Billy and had given up for adoption. Dylan and wife Bridget are now living with her son, Peter, in Minnesota.
DREW
It didn’t take Drew’s boyfriend, Jesse, long to fulfill her wish to find her biological parents. He figured out that her friend, Selena, was her mom, but Selena wanted this kept far under the rug, and Jesse agreed. Selena went as far as to create Mom No. 2 for Drew, and when Drew tracked her down, she bonded with her new “brother,” Max. The joy was short-lived, as Drew discovered proof that Selena was her mom, and angrily gave the woman her walking papers. Selena tried to recall who she had slept with during her days as a hooker, and it turned out to be Ross’ lawyer brother, Ben, who was representing Drew in her adoption of Max. A talk between Drew and Ben about Selena having slept with a scarred college student made him realize he was her dad. They had scant family time, however, as just days later Ben was shot and killed.
DINAH
This spirited young woman, put up for adoption by her biological mom, was raised in Springfield first by the Carters, who died in a car accident, and then by the Morgans, who also took in little Adele. After running away because she thought she was not wanted, Dinah traveled with carnies Joe and Shelley Kowalski. At 17, she returned to Springfield, where she was hit by a car in front of Phillip and Beth’s place. Phillip’s detective work reunited Dinah with Adele, who he learned was now India’s adopted daughter, Dorie. When the Kowalskis tracked Dinah down, they discovered that Vanessa was her biological mother. The carnies kidnapped Dinah and Vanessa, but Ross (who just learned he was her true dad) helped save them.
GUS
Although his attempt to bust the Santos family as revenge for Miguel Santos killing his dad was…a bust, dedicated FBI agent Gus Aitoro stayed in Springfield. Circumstances led him to believe that Miguel was his true father, but Lucia Renaldi revealed that she was actually Regina, Phillip’s nanny, and had had an affair with Alan — meaning he was Gus’ biological father. Gus later saved a drugged, delusional Alan from jumping off a bridge. Gus reunited with Regina, who admitted the truth, making him a Spaulding…and Phillip highly jealous.
