As The World Turns

Stuck in the Middle With You

Comments

AS THE WORLD TURNS’s Janet is smack in the middle of a tense cancer storyline with daughter Liberty and in the middle of ATWT’s supercouple, Carly and Jack. Soap vet Julie Pinson is familiar with all the pitfalls.Soap Opera Weekly: It’s got to be a challenge for actress Sarah Wilson to come in as nuLiberty at this juncture.

Julie Pinson: Yeah, I know, and I think this is one of Sarah’s first [TV roles]. It’s her first soap, for sure, and I can’t imagine being her age and stepping into a soap opera in the middle of such a heavy storyline, with all that dialogue. I don’t know how she did it, because I don’t think I would have been able to do it.

Weekly: I don’t know about that. I bet you could.

Pinson: Oh, I don’t know, man. I was scared off my ass the first year of PORT CHARLES — up against Kin Shriner (ex-Scott) and Lynn Herring (ex-Lucy) and Jon Lindstrom (ex-Kevin; Craig, ATWT). I don’t know how I got through it without wetting my pants [laughs]!

Weekly: Honestly, I really loved Eve! I felt like you really gave it your all and made a great impression from the get-go. Even on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, you brought something interesting to Billie.

Pinson: Thanks. I wish I’d had more to do on DAYS! That would have been great, because Billie was such a great complex character, but she just never got a shot, you know?

Weekly: The show didn’t seem to know what to do with her after a while.

Pinson: And they kept putting her with dead-end guys. They could have kept [me] with Brody (Hutzler), who played Patrick. That would have been good, but they put her with Bo, which is, you know, a dead end. Hello! They threw her with Patch — dead end. Hello! The audience is never going to go for somebody new in those guys’ lives.

Weekly: It’s really, really tough to compete with the Bo/Hope and Steve/Kayla legacies.

Pinson: I loved working with Stephen [Nichols]. I really felt a lot of chemistry with him. And it was too bad, because I just knew, “It’s not gonna go anywhere!”
