GH’s Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie) has spent the last four years collaborating with her longtime friend Cheryl Krebs (“We were roommates when we were 18 years old, working for Hugh Hefner at the Playboy Club”) to create her new beauty line, Jacklyn Zeman Beauty. “We’re going to launch several sizes of cases of makeup brushes,” she explains, “but our main one that we truly love was the idea that we had to do eight brushes in a beautiful case, a ‘keep forever’ kind of case, that’s perfect for travel.”
In designing the line, Zeman says, “I was catering to women who use more than mascara and a little blush, women who have eyeshadow and maybe a pressed powder, a little foundation, a little under-eye cover-up. Not that we all put that on every day, but we have it in our makeup drawer. I took everything that I would use for makeup if I was going to do a personal appearance or a photo shoot or go to a wedding, and that’s the size of the case. And we added a removable mesh case, which I really love, that snaps out of the larger case so you can keep your everyday stuff — your lipstick or lip gloss, your inner-eye pencil or your powder puff — in your purse, then put it back in the case so you don’t have to go digging around for your essentials.”
Yet more care was taken to perfect the brushes inside the case. “We spent a lot of time talking to professional makeup artists,” she reports. “My goal was to do high-quality brushes at an affordable price, and to do that, we really needed to talk to experts. Each of our brushes is specifically designed with the right kinds of hairs on it for the correct application for the task it’s used for, and I also love the copper/brass ferrule, which is professional-quality and won’t rot.”
Once the brushes went into the manufacturing stage, Zeman enlisted the expertise of GH’s beauty experts. “I’d get one of the brushes and try it and I’d give it to my daughters to try it, and I’d pass them along to Donna Messina, my brilliant makeup artist at GENERAL HOSPITAL, and Linda Rondinella, who does hair [at GH] but is very knowledgeable about makeup, as well. They both used them and they loved them. That was such an exciting day. It was like, ‘Oh, gosh, these are my babies and we can move forward!’ ”The travel case from Jacklyn Zeman Beauty Essentials, which comes with eight brushes, is available for $49.50 at JacklynZemanBeauty.com.
