Star Gazing With Blair Redford

Comments

Going out to the local grocery store attracts a lot more attention for Y&R’s Blair Redford (Scott) than it used to. Here, Redford recalls getting recognized during his first trip back to his hometown of Atlanta.

“Me and my mom were doing grocery shopping my second day there,” Redford recalls. “A woman came up who recognized me and made a big scene in front of my mom. My mom ate it up. It was great. For me, it’s nice. I’m glad I can bring something positive to someone’s day just by saying, ‘Hey,’ but I really enjoyed that my mom was there to see it. Parents love stuff like that. She was excited.” Turns out the store in question was near Redford’s old high school, where “I would go to all the time to pick something up or just hang out with my friends in the parking lot,” he says.

Seems Redford didn’t realize how proud people were of him until he came back home after joining the Y&R cast. “It was a big deal in my hometown. I had an article in my hometown paper, front page of the entertainment section of the Atlanta Journal, so there’s kind of a buzz about me in Atlanta,” Redford admits. “You walk around and people give you looks and you wonder what they’re thinking. My good friends have been cool about it. They’re excited by it, but I’m happy I’m still the same guy to them. Acquaintances and people I don’t know as well treat me a bit different. I guess that’s expected.”

On the flip side, Redford hasn’t experienced any big fan moments in celebrity-laden Los Angeles yet. “Not too much. I see a lot of celebrities from film and TV [there], so unless someone was a big fan, I don’t think they would say anything,” he reasons. “It’s sort of an understanding here. This is where a lot of celebrities live, so you don’t go up to them while they’re grocery shopping or having dinner to interrupt them.”

Wherever they are, Redford’s fans have plenty to look forward to in Genoa City as Scott learns more about his past with evil Sheila. “Once everything does come out, it’s going to give Scott a lot to work with and me a lot to play with,” Redford enthuses. “There’s bound to be some excited stuff… His upbringing hasn’t been normal, but he’s become a strong and confident guy, who’s very self-aware. I don’t think he’ll shut down and start whining, but he’s not going to cope with this too well. It would be pretty hard for anybody in his situation to find out what they’ve actually been writing about. It’s going to hit him pretty hard.”
