Soap Superlatives
Stand-Out Scenes
B&B: Good for Steffy for standing up to Hope, who is trying to take her man! Steffy called Hope out on supposedly wanting to “support” her marriage to Liam, while in reality she was trying to get Liam for herself. We’re firmly in Steffy’s corner at the moment, but here’s hoping their war gets even more vicious.
DAYS: Billy Flynn delivered a fantastic performance as Chad discovered his wife in bed with Stefan. His hurt and anger were potent and powerful. We were half-expecting Gabby to conk him over the head, à la Marlena and Kate!
GH: Jason, Sam and Spinelli’s little bank robbery scheme was great. Kelly Monaco was able to show a fun side of Sam that hasn’t been around for a while, and it’s always great to hear zingers from Spinelli. GH loves a silly caper every once in a while, and this definitely fit the bill.
Y&R: Kyle stealing the memory card and discovering the truth about Jack’s paternity was in keeping with his smarmy attitude, and he even roped in a hesitant Ravi, who we haven’t seen in a while.
Things That Made Us Go Hmmm
B&B: We’re happy that Liam’s out of that hotel, but living in the Forrester guesthouse? That defies logic, considering he was married to Hope and had a thing with Quinn back in the day. How quickly we forget!
DAYS: While we enjoyed Flynn’s performance during the Chad/Stefan brawl, the actual staging was a bit gruesome, with Stefan’s bloodied face on display. The same goes for Gabi’s beating at the hands of her fellow inmates — did we really need to see all that violence at once?
GH: Ava’s on the verge of becoming one-note. It’s one thing to want custody of your child, especially after the scare they had with Mike and Josslyn, but it’s another to coldly declare that she doesn’t care at all that Mike is ill. Her attitude is likely meant to cause friction with saintly beau Griffin, but pure cruelty makes it hard to root for her at all.
Y&R: This show is doing a lot of things right, but Sharon having a Carrie-style dream in which J.T.’s hand pops out from the ground in Chancellor Park? That’s just cheap. It’s important to show how the women are struggling with the incident, but there’s got to be a better way than that old trick.
Doughnut Debacle
We’re still trying to figure out the point of the “cronut” subplot on GH. A lot of attention was paid to Robert and Finn ordering cronuts at Kelly’s (which, by the way, is a diner and not a bakery). And unless the cronuts came from the Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City, Kelly’s can’t really use the trademarked term “cronut.”
