Interview!

Soap Newcomer – Tristan Lake Leabu

Comments

How was your character described to you?

“That Reed is a teenage boy who is having some trouble fitting in at his mom’s house after being away for so long and they would kind of butt heads. It also said in the character description that he played music.”

Is this what most attracted you to the role?

“Yes! When I read that, I got amped up to audition. I brought a guitar and played a little bit, which wasn’t requested, but the character description said he relieved his tension through music.”

Who did you screen-test with?

“I actually didn’t have a screen test, but on the callback, Amelia [Heinle, Victoria] and Jason [Thompson, Billy], read scenes that Reed would be in, so it was still the audition format. Those guys were wonderful and it felt great reading with them.”

How did you find out that you landed the role?

“My manager called me and said, ‘They’d love for you to play this character, do you want to do it?’ And I said, ‘Of course, that’d be amazing!’ She said, ‘Right now, it’s 6 p.m. and you’re filming three episodes tomorrow, and they need you there at 5 in the morning, so here are 18 pages, and be ready.’ So, I went home, buckled down and learned my lines.”

How was your first day?

“It was a pretty hectic day, but once I got on set it went really smoothly and we breezed through it, and it’s been a joy ever since.”

Have you gotten any fan reaction yet in person?

“I didn’t know one of my best friends watches B&B and Y&R all the time. He saw me on Y&R and freaked out. He was so excited! It was really funny.”
