Interview!

Soap Newcomer – Alex Wyse

Comments

How does an established New York theater actor like yourself end up on a soap?

“Sheer chance. My demo reel came across the desk of the incredible [B&B] casting director, Christy Dooley, and suddenly I got a phone call saying, ‘They’re offering you a role. Be in Los Angeles on Monday’ — and this was a Friday evening. It was totally out of the blue, and I was so excited to dive headfirst into this new adventure. Can I tell you a crazy story about right before I got it?”

Absolutely!

“I had my tarot cards read one week before this all happened and the guy who read my cards said, ‘I see your next job is coming very quickly. You will not have to work to get this job. The offer will just come to you, and I’m seeing warm weather, so you should prepare for that.’ I said, ‘Okay, sure,’ and then I got the phone call — so that made getting it all the more shocking for me, that somebody had literally predicted
my future.”

That is crazy! What did you do to celebrate?

“I packed a bag! There was no time for me to think or do anything. It was an enormous and sudden shift in my life, but I had done work out here before so I was excited to come back and reconnect with friends and restart my L.A. life.”

Any soap fans in the family? “I have friends who are soap fans and one in particular, Doug Gaeta, has been watching since he was a kid and he was freaking out to know that I was part of Spectra 2.0, since he was such a big fan of Spectra 1.0. I think I’m making him proud.”

Do you feel much pressure being a 2.0?

I know it comes with a lot of nostalgia for the fans, and I have enormous respect for the fans and for Michael Fox [ex-Saul] and Darlene [Conley, ex-Sally] and all those who came before us, so I’m doing my best to honor and continue that.”
