Frank opens the Recovery Room with the assistance of Jamal and Alison Barrington (Erin Hershey Presley). 
2001: Frank and Karen’s (Marie Wilson) friendship becomes romantic; after forging an Internet relationship with a mystery woman named Cookie, Frank travels back in time. There, he realizes that Cookie is actually Rhonda, Karen’s mother, as a teenager. Frank ends up erasing Karen’s life through the computer and brings her back.
2002: Frank and Karen get engaged; Frank is chosen to become the Avatar. He impregnates Livvie Locke (Kelly Monaco), but the baby dies.
2003: Joshua Temple turns Frank into a vampire, which causes Karen to say good-bye.
